Hello All.

I'm new to this forum the main reason i have registered is i am looking to buy a mini cooper s and wanted to know are they a good car? i currently got an alfa 147 and not sure whether its worth making the change is there anything i need to look out for/ common faults and is there only one engine that the cooper s comes in?

The 1st Generation MINI Cooper S came with a supercharged engine. The current MINI Cooper S is turbocharged.

I highly recommend the cooper s as just coming up to my first year

I absolutely adore mine & it can be a real head turner with the full cooper works body kit

Also there loads of mods if your into that

I had ka's before & decided to upgrade to a mini as monies permitted & wouldn't look back

They are dream in this horriable weather at the moment & stick to the road like glue

The Halogens are perfect if you do a lot of night driving

Also the cooper S is real speedster sit behind the wheel & you will turn into a mini maniac!!! i promise

The only thing i would complain about is the back being a hatchback it gets black withing 2mins in this weather but cant having everything you just have to learn to wash more often. Also the tax on a cooper s is in the second highest co2 bracket so isn't as cheap but i woildn't be without it!! (a non r56 model)

Yeh i think there only to types of enguines but not sure i think the older r53 model are 1.6 supcharged & the new r56 are 1.6 turbocharged

There's too much to list, but in short, once you drive a MINI you won't want to drive anything else.

There are various faults, often dependent on the year. Everything that there is to be said, so I'd say get reading.

Welcome! I have a Mini Cooper S Works and an Alfa 147 JTD so can give you a pretty good comparison! The Mini Handles a lot better, and feels like its built better but for a long journey/touring the Alfa surprisingly wins every time on comfort and practicality. My previous Cooper S was a 163BHP version and the JTD engine in the Alfa could keep up just fine despite being only 115BHP (it did have more torque though)!
The Alfa has been more reliable but is more expensive when work does need doing, if you can afford it get both, if you want a fun car for back road blasts and track days get the MINI, if you do long journeys keep the Alfa! Don't wanna put you off the MINI though, out of the two its my favourite!
