Offline | If the car you were in was insured all along under the old plate and you then put the old plate back on then you should'nt be done for no insurance as you have been covered to drive that car all along. When the police ran a check on the personalised plate, this would have shown it as not being associated with the car you were in therefore no insurance. If you explained that you were insured under the old plate, put it on, take all your docs, ie, insurance etc to them and show the mistake you made. They probably realised your error if you explained to them about your old plate otherwise they would have arrested you. You can then arrange for the personalised plate to be transferred to the car, get it done from the DVLA. I wouldn't think any action will be taken unless they believed you were either trying to steal or use the car for some other illegal reason. good luck |

Offline | It is a little bit of a pickle... As you have the DVLA plate transfer your MOT and tax should now be on your new plate and not your insurance, so if you change your plate back to your old ones you will be driving on false plates! You do have a grace period of about 30 days or so which means you can have wrong tax, insurance, and mot. TBH I would not worry, ring your insurance tell them about the plate and just confess you did not know. I have had problems when I change my plate but the DVLA has not updated, so it does happen anyway but just dumb it up. You are still insured if your plate is not correct and theroetically should be fine for the grace period. if your out the grace period, get the paperwork and new insurance cover and take them to your producer and you will be fine. Your insurance wont show the date it was changed in most cases so it will still have a from and till date as per your original document |

Offline | cheers guys, the policeman said to me that i should ask for it to be back dated to before they pulled me but the insurance company wouldnt do that, im really worried still though as the minimum penalty is £180 and 6 points, and being a student it would mean id have to get rid of the mini if that ws the case ![]() im just waiting on my new cover note to come through, i think i will take both policies to the police station and hopefully they will see that it was a geniune mistake, after all i have been paying for the insurance anyway |

Offline | I think you should be ok, don't worry, Its a genuine mistake and I think that the police can see this and hopefully won't take it any further, especially after you show all the proper documents. ![]() |

Offline | I'm a little confused here. What was your original plate? If it wasn't CB51 LEY and you have bought this to replace your previous plate, as I understand it, your previous number reverts back to Swansea. You may still have the plastic number plates, but the registration number no longer belongs to you unless you paid to keep it during the original transfer and have it on a retention certificate. At least that's my understanding. Or are we really just talking about letter spacing here? ![]() |

Offline | All insurers must provide details of your motor insurance policy to the MID. It’s no longer enough just to be insured, all vehicles must be listed on the MID. Data from the MID is used by police to help combat uninsured driving. If your details haven’t been entered on the MID you may be stopped by the police. There’s a risk that your vehicle could be seized if the correct details haven’t been registered. For private individuals it’s the responsibility of the insurance provider to get details of a policy or changes on MID within seven days of the effective date. It’s now possible to check that your vehicle is registered on the MID. By logging on to Askmid and following the instructions you can confirm quickly and easily that your vehicle insurance details have been entered. All you have to do is enter your vehicle’s registration number and to confirm that the vehicle is registered, owned or insured by either you or your employer and regularly driven by you. Then press enter and the system will instantly tell you whether or not a policy for your vehicle is recorded on the system. check your vehicle is insured ![]() hope the above helps everyone, basically as always notify your insurers of changes, then in theory there shouldnt be a problem ![]() ![]() |
