Have you seen these?

17" BMW Mini Works Style Alloy Wheels with Tyres (270) on eBay, also, Wheels with Tyres, Car Wheels, Tyres Trims, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 30-Jan-08 10:23:33 GMT)

If you want/have runflats you could ask them for a price without the tyres, might work out quite favourably depends on price/quality

Hi, Yeh had a little look at them!
TBH I was hoping to buy a Brand New set of these for around £400 with tyres! (A Very tall ask I know!)
The reason I say this though, is because I was looking on ebay a couple of months ago and some copany was selling these wheels (Replicas of course) at £400, special offer with tyres which I though was blimmin good! At the time, as you were aware, I didn't have the moeny, however know I have had time to save, I am now close to the £400 mark again! Also when I spoke to the guy who I bought the wheels from (the wheels I have just sold), he said that he was going to refurb them like what I was going to do, but found that 'TopGear' website were selling replicas for £400, so he just sold them (on to me)!
I was hoping that somebody could point me in the direction of a company whos selling replicas for £400, but as you can see again - Nobody can!!

Just out of interest, do you know if there is much difference between the geniunes or the replicas, i.e- if looking at them, how could you tell them apart? (I haven't seen the replicas - I don't think so couldn't say!!)

Replicas have a little MINI wings logo in the centre instead of the MINI word in the centre. Also I think the replicas spokes are slightly more pronounced from the orginal. I had the replicas and I put them next to a MINI which had the originals and there was no real difference in obvious appearence. So much so that the guy who owned the car with the real R90s said he would go for the replicas instead of the real as there was nothing in it. Obviously the replicas are not split rim and the bolts are fakes.
This photo is of my replicas on my old MINI. The TOPGEAR website is the same wheels as this.

I hope this helps?

The replicas I have have the same MINI logo in as the genuine ones. They're from rimstyle.co.uk although I can't remember how much they were

Nic,

Thanks for that! Had a little look on there website and they are £499, which isn't bad at all. However cos the budget isn't that much, will have to keep searching?! Are you pleased with the wheels?

the difference between BBS and replicas are ALWAYS;
weight (reps are alot hevier)
strength (reps arent as strong)

thats why you pay extra money for the BBS. better quality

Is there any advantage to having a split rim?

Also, do you know if a wheel like the 7-hole 15" alloys could be split to widen it from a 5.5" J-rim to something more like a 7" J-rim? That last bit probably sounded crazy.

All the best,
Andrew.

I know that the Italian ones I bought and posted pic of earlier were lighter than the official ones. I'll try and find the pics I posted of the box with the weights on when I bought them at the time ......

Right here you go.

http://www.mini2.com/forum/wheels-ty...any-italy.html

MINIGolf has found all the info and posted it here in one place! So the replicas (at least the ones I had) are 1 kilo lighter than the OEM ones.

The Routecompany's replicas weigh 20 lbs, weighed them myself. OEM R90's weigh 25lbs.
The replicas on ebay may well be a different company as the 17" version has an offset of
48mm while the Routecompanys are 40mm. The ebay replicas are also available as 18"
with a 48mm offset. I have no idea how heavy the ebay replicas are. All sizes/colours look
good to me .

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs
