Offline | M25 Speed Cameras go digital? For your information only ! This was posted today in a Mercedes forum which I also use. Quote:- "I have inside information that the speed cameras on the M25 (J10-15) are being upgraded this weekend from analogue to digital. This basically means that the "Trigger Point" has decreased from 93 MPH to 80 MPH. Hope this helps prevent some unwanted points!" If true I would think the trigger point is lower because they will no longer run out of film ! I did also read recently that all film Gatso cameras are gradually being upgraded internally to digital so will look the same but no longer ever run out of film. |

| MINI2 Youngster | The speed limit on a motorway is 70mph however speed camera are set to trigger wen you are 10% over the limit + 2mph ie 79mph which is rounded to 80 the reason being they have to allow for various tire pressures and road conditions which could alter the reading. Sometimes they set the trigger even higher ie 90mph as they only want to catch those which are breaking the law by 20% or more in which case they can take them to court and prosecute - this is my understanding anyway from a reliable source- hope this helps |

Offline | Not average speed.... but this concerns the variable speed section between the A3 junction and the M40 junction round the western edge of the M25 that goes past Heathrow. The speed limit is 70mph - due to the old cameras being film based, the trigger point for them was set at 90 'odd' mph - however the new digital cameras can take pictures all day long and automatically wire the info back to HQ to issue your fine, so the trigger point has been cut to 80mph. There are overhead gantries in the variable zone, during busy periods they display either 60mph, 50mph or even 40mph - these are the speed you must obey - the new cameras will automatically lower their trigger point according to the speed limit displayed on the gantry. To avoid a fine, set a suitable speed, and flick on the cruise ![]() ![]() |
