Offline | Good. Generally speaking the vast majority of 'personalised' number plates with squiffy fonts and logos look rubbish and I doubt they'd be picked up by speed cameras etc too? No offence to those who've done it tastefully, but rules is rules... |

Offline | There are hundered of dodgy ( fonts, additional lettering, colours & spacings ) number plates here in Blackburn. It seems to be a cultural thing that goes along side fully blacked out windows. Police here ignore it. |

I get to work and am just going through the door; my mate comes running upto me with a big grin on his face saying "paul has been tugged on the A30" When i asked this guy paul later what happened he said they are there all day looking for cars with any type of number plate other than standard! He got a £30 fine. Lucky i took my bike today!! ![]() |

Offline | ha, so you'd think but in the last 6 years I've been stopped 7 times specifically so that the boys in blue can measure the spacing on my plate, even though it was supplied by the dealer with their name at the bottom. Oddly enough it was OK when it was on my Honda HRV for 2 years, it only started when it went on my first MINI. ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | They were all over Manchester today pulling loads of cars. We ate lunch near the city centre and they had traffic wardens, community support officers, traffic police, normal police and even the police helicopter at one point. I'm gonna be putting my private plate on in March but not risking wrongly spacing it like I used to have it on my last car. It's not worth it. Hopefully it means less uninsured drivers off the roads though which can only be a good thing. |

Offline | I didn't realise that there were actually enough traffic police left to enforce such an operation I'd assumed that when all enforcement was done by camera and there were absolutely no traffic police left then removing number plates all together might become the norm! ![]() Slightly more seriously, I guess it's a risk people choose to take when they mess around with their 'plate. However, why deliberately bait the police and hand them the opportunity (on a plate!) to stop you? There's every chance that they will then check the rest of the car for something else to make the pull more worthwhile..... Besides, number plates that actually say something, but are legally spaced, are much cooler and more fun to spot than the ones where the spacing has been changed to make it too blindingly obvious to be any fun to work out for ourselves. Tigger. ![]() May 08: Thanks to all of my friends on Mini2 for a lot of great times over the last 4 years. In future I can always be contacted here! |

Offline | I agree that perhaps dodgy fonts ought to be stopped, but I think they need better number plate recognition software, as I can't see how the way the plate is spaced is in any way important. You ought to be able to space the plate how you want, as long as the font is legal and the numbers and letters are in the correct order! If its the case that the plate recognition software can't handle the plate if its spaced differently then what happens with plates on imported cars! as these plates are legally allowed to be smaller. |
