Hi, next week I'm planning to buy my first MINI, a low mileage Sep-2006 MCS from a MINI Cherished programme.

I live in Malta and will fly over to Britain to buy it and drive it over to Malta, a 2900km trip.

The dealer and MINI UK have so far failed to put my mind at rest regarding the level of warranty I can expect. MINI Cherished gives an automatic minimum 1-year warranty but this specifically mentions the UK and Continental Europe (which Malta is not). I've no idea what the original MINI warranty would cover as MINI UK have not responded to my emails. The dealer told me that I can expect 2 years' cover from initial registration but I've yet to see something in writing that puts my mind at rest.

My concern is that the long drive might reveal some nasty issues that I would need addressed by the Malta MINI agent. But would the Malta agent be under any warranty obligation towards me?

Anyone had any similar experience? Any pointers?

I bought my 06 MINI here in Germany and it is a US Spec MINI (purchased via a military dealer). In the USA, everything is covered, even the oil changes. However, my MINI falls under the German warranty program, not the USA so I don't get those extras while here.

Basically your coverage for warranty will vary from country to country depending on what it is in that location. Your best bet is to contact a MINI dealer in Malta and ask them what their warranty program is. Your MINI will fall into that catagory.

Also, in my case, if I ever take it back to the states I will get the remainder of my US warranty.
