| MINI2 Newbie | Is this right? Crazy Mini warranty Hi Guys I was informed on newminiscotland but could not be confirmed. The warranty on replaced oem parts, in my case the exhaust runs out with the car 3 yr warranty? Our exhaust was replaced on the last 2 days of its warranty so the warranty on this brand new part ran out 2 days after it was fixed as it was replaced under the cars original warranty. This wa 14 months ago and the baffle has gone so the piece needs replaced. Anyone got any advice? |

Offline | ![]() ![]() ![]() Afraid you will find that is correct ![]() Any part replaced during warranty period is only covered up until the original warranty runs out ![]() Had a similar problem with steering rack. All BMW parts bought and fitted by dealer carry a two year warranty. This is how the dealer explained it to me ![]() But you can always try you may be lucky. |

Offline | On the contrary, I think you will find that it is highly likely. The thinking is that the new part is part of the part which has been replaced, so in effect your failed baffles are seen as part of your original exhaust system, which of course is now out of waranty. Manufacturers are there to make money, not to keep supplying parts for free. There is no way that any dealer will change this policy. Sorry for the bad news Paul. |

Offline | Oh know what you're saying and I agree that they aren't oibliged to change it, but it's always worth asking in apparent ignorance, they might say yes ![]() ![]() Unintimated and I'm back!! ![]() For sunshine, fun and Cornish Pasties: New MINI Kernow Cornish Oggy Run 2009! |

Offline | yes when the warranty on the car runs out that also means for everything that has been replaced during warranty. ( standard practice in dealerships, if not they would be replacing parts for ever more, and who would pay for the labour ? ) anything after that would be entirely at the dealer's discretion, but as far as your exhaust goes I think your onto peanuts. worth a try but I'd be very surprised if you get anywhere. nothing ventured, nothing gained !! |

Offline | I'd say that warranty is good for at least a year as goodwill as it was fitted so close to the end of warranty, I'd assume from your post that they didnt replace the whole system, and you'll also find that exhausts are a wear & tear item like brakes etc and i think you be hard pushed to get any manufacturer still replacing w&t items 14 months AFTER warranty expired. ![]() Modern Mini Mag Oscars 2008 "Spirit of MINI Ownership" nominee |

Offline | When I had my original MINI One I had an ongoing issue with the passenger door cable dislodging and was replaced several times. I managed to get it in writing that this part would be replaced after my warrenty ran out just incase. It seems that if you had it in writing regarding the exhaust you may have been covered, but as others have said...it seems it ran out with the 3 year thing. Nightmare. ![]() |

Offline | You could give Trading Standards a ring and see what they say. There may be provision under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 regarding the "use of satisfactory materials", or maybe even quoting this at the dealer if they quibble. |

Offline | Replacing a part under w/tee does not extend that parts life beyond the w/tee. So after 3 years by law they don't have to help but many do if shortly after the w/tee. After 4 months you might be lucky but after 14 I would be very surprised. As you didn't buy the exhaust I doubt if "use of satisfactory materials" etc etc will hold. Still if you don't ask you don't get. ![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |
