Personal Preference- 2nd Gen or 1st Gen

What is your personal preference, Facelift or prefacelift?? as in the difference between R50/R52/R53 and R56

This may cause conflict so keep posts minimum.

On the whole i prefer the R53 but the R56 with the new aerokit can look nice, i recently bought a cooper S and looked at getting an R56 as i prefer the interior but in the end I just couldn't live with how it looks outside so I bought one of the last R53's to be made...

Facelift means the more subtle changes between '04 and '05. Is that what you mean? Or the difference between R50/R52/R53 and R56?

Edited the poll too for you.

Well for my part I've owned an R50 Cooper and now have an R56 S. I loved my Cooper to bits and never any problems. But I am loving my S more

Both a MINI is a MINI.....nothing quite like the whine of the old superchrged S, but the economy and grunt of the R56 S is all good too....

complete opposite to crammy and yet the same. Dont like the inside of an r56 but can live with the outside.
Still prefer R50 etc 04 onwards, just cos i like the chrome on the bumpers better

Ditto! The R56 IMO both in and out are far better and has lured me to a new R56 MCS, but the first gen mini's were very nice. As I'm aware, the salesman who's dealing with my new car said to me there's at least 5 years left in the current "styled" mini before a completely new design that would make it look signifcantly different. To be honest, that seems sensible with it reaching almost 10 years old for the current shape.

They look so different, the variations etc make it more than just 1st gen versus 2nd gen really.

Like Cooper or S, first gen Cooper or 2nd gen Cooper, or 1st gen S.... Then there's the Clubman, Convertibles (R52) and so on......

Me, I like this fence, but in this order of first and second gen.

2nd gen I like: Cooper S, Cooper D, Cooper/One.

1st gen I like: Cooper S, Cooper/One, One D, Hard tops over soft tops for appearance.

Clubman I really like the appearance of, despite it's quirks.

Prefer the 2nd gen interior over 1st gen, but the 1st gen exterior in general looks better to me than the 2nd.... And I prefer the pre-facelift Cooper/One, but post facelift S.

And I like sitting on the fence here too.

Prefer 1st Gen exterior (except turn signals, which I like having integrated within the headlights).

Slight preference for the 2nd Gen interior - and the redesign's fuel economy is what finally nudged me into buying a MCS. So guess I gotta vote for "2nd".
