Mini One Advice

I looking to buy a 2nd hand Mini One and I’m stuck between two and would like some advice.

Both cars have the same engine, price, colour, Air con, Pepper Pack and are two years old.

The difference comes in the additional specs

One has very low mileages 8,500 the other has 29,000.

The one with 29,000 has all the extras below…

16" 5-Star Alloy Wheels
Satellite Navigation
Sport Seats - Front
Rear spoiler
Darkened Glass

I was wondering what’s more important less miles or higher spec.

The most important thing for me is that in 3 years it still keeps a good value and would be easy to possibly trade in.

I’m new to Mini’s so any advice would be really helpful.

Thanks

Jemes

Personally I'd go with the one with low mileage, simply for the road side assistance! It stops along with your warranty at 100k miles..

Its up to you though...

I'd get the low mileage one as well, most of those extras can be added on afterwards if you really want them except for the satnav but you can get a portable one which might be better..

Id go for the slightly higher mileage car, Minis come with an 3 year unlimited Mile warranty, and 29k is nothing for a facelift car.

Satnav is a very nice option aswell.

for trade in value after 3 years you must go for the low mileage example................it's a no brainer

I'd be wary of the low mileage one. That's an average of 4,250 miles per year, now it may be that the car is a 2nd/3rd car, hence the low usage, but that would be more likely with a MCS or something. If it's just been going down the road to the shops, never properly warmed up, never given a good blast of clear out you could be in for problems. It probably won't haver had a service (I can't remeber what the first interval for a MINI one is, and that the service counter takes into account use), so may be on original oil? I'm assuming all of these things, but it's worth checking.

On the other hand that 29,000 mile car has an average of 14,500 miles per year, which is a bit above the average of 10-12,000. It will have had a service, but will always be worth less than the low mileage car, unless your use is lower and returns it to average mileage.

As for spec, well that (generally speaking) add desirability not value. Now there are some exceptions to that, air con is worth more, as is leather, alloys. Sat nav may be a selling point, portableones are so cheap now prob won't add value (I may be wrong on this, personally I avoid cars with built in nav, they tend to be out of date and have less features than a Garmin/TomTom, though that's purely my opinion). 16" 5-star alloys are often replaced so do come up for sale fairly frequently.

Personally I'd consider what my usage is going to be, then make the appropriate checks on the low mileage one, and base my decision on that.

The Pepper Pack in itself is a decent spec. I'd go along with the badun's comment -- if you're going to do a low mileage go for the higher mileage and vice-versa.
