Offline | hi everyone I am finally buying a used MCS but looking around I found out that not only from November 2006 the new model was released, but also that from July 2004 there was another change in the specs (more BHP, different gearbox ration)/ is that correct? If so is it noticeable the difference between MCS before and after July 2004? and finally,,,, is it really that better to buy a MCS post 2006 or will I be happy enough with a 2004 model (some people suggest the supercharge gives a funnier drive than the turbo) ? my finance don't stretch enough for a new model.... many thanks! ![]() Federico |

Offline | Yes there was a change in the spec in 2004. Have owned a 2003 mcs and a 2005 mcs and there is a difference. Why dont you visit a dealer and drive both you will soon chose. We were thinking of trading Swiper in for a new works s but cant do it we have driven one but the supercharger is better than the turbo! Mini obsessed |

Offline | I had a Jan 04 Dark Silver/White S until the start of this month, and I changed it to a June 06 Checkmate S. The changes, aside from the cosmetic - different rear lights/different xenons - are noticable. The gearbox feels freer, and the clutch isn't as stiff. Acceleration seems a little quicker too, and it possibly pulls away a little more cleanly too. As mentioned above, best thing for you to do is to try the two out. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either, should you find a pre-facelift model that's the right spec and price for you ![]() Good luck! |

Offline | Depends on your budget and what you want from your MINI really. I'd go for either a 2nd gen Cooper S with turbo, or as late as possible first gen (supercharged). The former if you want decent fuel consumption, the latter for possibly the best built (all bugs ironed out) MINI you will buy. Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Offline | thanks Paul...thing is I cannot afford the R56... you mean that it's definetely worth spending the extra bucks for the "facelifted" version over the pre-July 2004? someone mentioned some problems of the first series of the R53 facelift..... |
