Offline | If I were to purchase a mini from an out of state dealer is my local dealer obligated to honor my maintenance and extended warranties? My local dealer told me that they will not honor my 3year/ 36,000 mile maintenance warranty if purchased elsewhere. Anyone have any similar experiences or feedback? Does anyone have an extended factory warranty? |

Offline | Yes, he's required to honor your warranty. But you're not going to get any extras out of them (loaner car, various freebies, etc). Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | Re: warranty question dealer to dealer Wow! What a crock of sh*t Scenario: you are from Massachusetts and own a MINI. You move to California. Would the dealer say "sorry, I won't honor the warranty". I don't think so. Scenario: You are on a road trip 2,000 miles from home, MINI croaks, MINI assistance tows to nearest dealer. Would they say, "sorry, I won't honor the warranty because you didn't purchase it here"? I don't think so. Maybe you should contact MINI USA and rat the ******** out. Please name and shame the dealer. Missing my buddies Dan and Ed but glad I have two angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs |

Offline | the whole story Currently have a deposit on MCS in chicago. This is because my local dealer here in cleveland has 3to 4 month wait, not to mention $995.00 over msrp. Went to local dealer to ask warranty questions. Sales told me that their dealership didn't honor the 3yr/36,000 mile maintenance warranty if purchased elsewhere. At the same time they were trying to sell us a mini that a current buyer was likely to back out of that day. What timing! We called miniusa today to verify this warranty info. We were informed that all dealerships will honor maintenance (3yr/36,000 mile) and mechanical (4yr/50,000 mile) warranties provided my mini. We were also told by miniusa that an extended 4yr/50,000 mile maintenance warranty was available and also would be honored at all dealerships but an extended mechanical warranty was not available from the factory. This call to mini lead to a call from the service manager at our local dealer to verify that the factory warranties would absolutely be honored at their dealership if purchased elsewhere. Hopefully this was a miscommunication and not just a hard sell. |

Offline | Do not think it was a hard sell. The service guys have a little different agenda than the sales guys. I wish dealer's would just realize how much long term distaste that this kind of remark made by a salesman can do. The service guys will take care of you. Mick |

Offline | It works I bought my car in Buffalo (living in Rochester at the time), and have had it serviced in Cleveland at Classic for a few minor warranty bits a few times (haven't gotten to 10k yet, so no maintence). Besides the aforementioned loss of 'perks' like loaner cars and the service department being really picky about doing anything that they wouldn't make money on. (Like replacing a blemished trim ring) the warranty has been easily applied, and they well know my car wasn't from them. I'm not amazingly impressed with their service department (parts is quite helpful) but they certainly honor everything they should according to MINIUSA, just nothing above it. FYI, I had pondered buying an S from them to replace my car, and the owner of the dealer was around, I mentioned I could drive to Buffalo and pay their $595 prep/floormats/wax fee over MSRP and the owner said they'd match that if I wanted. Buffalo (Towne) also recently had some probably customer cancelled S's.. you may want to check in with them and see if you can drive less, possibly pay a bit more but get a car faster. (716 505-2100, my salesman was Greg and he didn't makeup random facts about warranties) -Alan Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |
