| I speak for the trees! | Got rear ended by a Nissan Versa. Bumper hit bumper so hatch still works but bumper is cracked and angled down. Hit was off center, mostly on the left side of the bumper. Any advice on what to look for to make sure all damage is found? Can a hit in the rear do anything to the front of the car, engine compartment? |

![]() Toon Toon.. | Bumper is designed to take a hit so hopefully all the energy will have been absorbed by the crumple zones. Were you hit hard? I got hit at a similar angle by a 4 x 4 not so long ago. Even though he didn't hit me hard I feared the worst. But all things considered it wasn't too bad, there was a dent in the rear quarter and the bumper was pushed in (the brackets holding them on are designed to absorb some of the impact). They're quite tough little cars. ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | I got rear ended by a dump truck with a full load 2 years ago. Had the bumper, hatch and tail light replaced (though the light still worked). I can attest to the strength of the Mini on rear impact. ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Got sideswiped at a junction on Friday which took out most of the rear nearside of my MINI. Force took me onto other side of road but the MINI proved pretty tough. Still need new rear panel, sideskirts, wheel, suspension and rear bumper but to I thought it would have been a lot worse. Makes me feel safe knowing it holds up well in a collison. Best advice from me is to get it checked by an approved repairer. Last edited by Yeoda : Feb 25th, 2008 at 04:09 PM. Reason: addition |
