sorry to hear your bad luck hope it's sorted soon, they've got to sort out a 'present' to compensate the shine taken off your collection!

I have been browsing this site for a while so thought I'd join, not really knowing what I should do/demand when I go to the dealership to collect, also to see if this has ever happened to anyone else. So was looking for some advice, which you all have offered, so thanks.

I had a phone call from the hire car company and the micra they expected to give me was unavailable. Not knowing what to expect a 08 plate Passat TDI turned up, finding it very odd to drive but cannot grumble.

When I told them about the micra being my hire car, the sales assistant offered me her mini for the next two days. However I tried to put it on my insurance and the excess was £650!

Nightmare mate!

When my car has been back which it has few times, my dealer has always supplied me with a mini and insurance.

Better than the Micra!!

I agree with jordangpboy, the dealership should sort you out with a MINI and insurance for it too, it will.should cost them near to nothing!

I think in the circumstances (major failure meaning car cannot be driven right on day one) if it were me I'd be suggesting to the garage that I'm seriously considering rejecting the car as unfit for purpose (you're almost certainly within your rights to do so and there is plenty of on line advice to assist you in this).

I suspect that faced with that, you'd find yourself very quickly in a loan MINI at their expense and talking some kind of freebie or two for your troubles in return for allowing them to fix it instead of rejecting it.

It is extremely unfortunate and it isn't their fault. But it is their responsibility to sort it out and make sure you are kept happy. At the moment (perfectly understandably) you're not and they need to be aware of the potential consiquences of that.

good luck with getting it sorted. I agree with what's been said.. you should get a courtesy car, at least to the value of your new mini, free of charge.

Thanks for all of that advice, I may need to use some of it after today. I agree it is their responsibility.

I had the call saying my car was ready to collect, basically air had been going round the engine instead of the coolant and caused some problems. Arrived at the dealership, met the manager and told that it had devloped another fault and would not be ready to collect until tomorrow (after the part had arrived). So not only did I leave work early to collect and for the hire car to be collecetd I am now left without the mini for another day.

Asked about compensation and they 'say' they can't compensate but have arranged a gesture of good will. Amd I got to see my mini with all of the tyres missing, engine off etc.. An absolute nightmare.

if that was me i would reject it. no way would i want a car thats been driven without coolant. As remember that you are not the first one to drive it. it would have been driven round the dealership, driven off the boat at the docks on to the transporter ( usually not sympathetically, my mate works at the local docks unloading cars and they have had to give security guards there speed guns to stop em racing around) and all of this without any coolant.

So i would reject, yes its a bugger but its there fault. And they should be picking up the cost of keeping you mobile on their own insurance.

I'm very tempted to do this, I phoned BMW customer servic,e who were VERY apologetic, they assure me that I should not reject it (although they would wouldnt they). They are going to offer me significant compensation aswell as what the dealership is going to offer. But is a mini care rucksack worth a faulty car?!

what! are they joking? i got that for free and that was after a £700 discount tell em to stuff it , i would want something significant, say something that you wanted but could not afford at the time of spec
what will bmw offer free, replacement bottles of car care when the ones in the rucksack have run out
regards Andy

All I was told was to leave it with them and my 'compensation' for the hellish experience would be there when I collect the car tomorrow (hopefully!).

I have my Mini Cooper, finally. Went to the dealership yesterday to find my cooper gleaming in the sunlight.

In terms of compensation I recived £50 worth of free mini stuff, I could pick anything and a cheque of £250 from BMW. I think the compensation package is ok, I certainly did not expect a personal cheque, according to the dealership, that amount is unheard of, whether or not that is true I don't know.

I'll try and get some pics on here for you. And.. thanks for all the advice/support! I
