My 08 mini disaster

My mini cooper chili was dropped off to me on Friday, so early this morning I decided to (obviously) drive it.

Two miles down the road the red temperature gauge falshed on the speedo. I pulled over and phoned mini emergencey assistant, they said my engine was overheating and sent someone out.

Engineer arrived three hours later, took off my wheel etc etc and couldnt fix the problem. Apparently the coolant is not circulating around the engine and that it is still in 'test' mode. Told me NOT to drive it and that it will be collected on Monday morning. Should then be fixed by that evening or Tuesday.

So now I have not expereicned my mini adventure or driven around with my new 08 plate. I'm quite annoyed. My hire car isnt coming until tomorrow and because I'm under 25 I get a micra, joy of joy.

What a terrible day.

Welcome to the site.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Any kind of issues with your car are not nice, but it must be even worse given that this has happened on day 1.

Heres hoping that you will be back on the road soon. I have sympathies about the Micra, I had the misfortune of driving one last year.

Hope you get your new motor sorted out soon! It's a bugger when life throws things like that at you. Anyway, at least they know the problem and it isn't going to take much to sort out!

Welcome!

I hope your dealer offers some free upgrades to compensate for their not PDIing and road testing the car properly. Name and shame?

Cheers, the dealership were very helpful and said this was the first time this has ever happened. Apart from this I couldnt fault them But lets hope they compensate me in some form when I collect.

When I told them about the micra being my hire car, the sales assistant offered me her mini for the next two days. However I tried to put it on my insurance and the excess was £650!

sorry to hear about your sorry start to MINI ownership

Would the dealer not lend you a car on their insurance like a courtesy car - this is what it is really, make sure you push for some recompense as they wont willingly offer in my experience.
Especially a new car breaking down on Day 1
Welcome to MINI2 btw

Thanks for your advice.

They say they are self insuring and thus couldnt offer me anything if I wasn't prepared to insure it on my policy.

Naievly, I thought they would automatically offer me something so I will be pushing when I collect. Incidently this is my second mini, I did have a mini one ssven and would quite like it back! Part of the new registration fun is driving around on day one and I can't. Not happy.

Thanks for your comments everyone!

I'll be sure to let you know what happens when I collect it, the dealership seemed quite shocked. They also said this has never happened before, one in a miliion, maybe I should play the lottery. Now my poor car is sitting on the drive, poorly, with only 16 miles on the clock!

Hope everyone who collected today is having more luck and enjoying them!

Oh no, gutted for ya!

I also sympathise with the Micra -can you not argue with the insurance company? I did - used the argument that my car was worth X, so should be given something decent in replacement. I got a Zafira, non turbo diesel! haha

When I wrote mine off, I had a Micra for two weeks - horrid! Then a Jazz for a couple of weeks, which was ok

Hope it gets fixed soon!!
