I wonder if there's enough discussion about the MINI's green credentials? It might be informative to have more info on the efforts made at Plant Oxford to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as the environmental credentials of the cars themselves?

And talking of which, I note how excellent the Cooper D and Clubman D are in terms of reduced CO2 (), but have just heard from someone in the know that particle filters (in general, not just MINI) don't actually trap the smallest bits that are the most carcinogenic - can anyone confirm or deny this?

Finally, since Luxembourg has just implemented a €750 cash-bach scheme for every purchase of a car emmitting less than 120g/km of CO2, isn't it typical that the Cooper emits 129g and the One 128g!!!!

Close, but not close enough, eh?

It's still a remarkable figure when you compare it to the 149g/km emmitted by the Fiat 500s 1.4 engine, and that's a lighter car!

Cool cash-back scheme, thats over £550. That'd pay nicely for some extras on the Cooper D. Mini are certainly going to need to ramp up production of those Diesel engines as more and more people are realising how green the Cooper D is.

1 week to go to see if our government throw us an incentive like that. (budget 2008 12th March).

For me, it kinda makes me lean towards a Cooper D version of my next Cabrio (assuming they ever get round to making one.....)

The other trick the Luxembourg government is implementing from 1 Jan next year is to remove all tax-breaks on company cars (yes, here we get tax-breaks on company cars, not more tax!) that emit over 190g/km. But since cars registered this year will still qualify under the current rules, everyone is expecting a frenzy of December deliveries of dirty big polluters!!

That's pretty amazing - I hadn't looked that close at the Fiat 500, but that sounds like a dirty old motor (says me with a 175g/km Tritec in my Cooper Cabrio )
