Offline | Build in Britain I also feel strongly that a Triumph would need to be built in Britain, even if many parts were made abroad. Like the MINI, or for that matter Rolls-Royce, it is largely the iconic Britishness that is the pedigree which sells the car (a major reason the Chinese insist on at least some MG assembly at Longbridge). In last week's CAR Magazine, (which I bought because of the terrific front cover featuring the new John Cooper Works MINIs), in the column headed COMING SOON which lists forthcoming models, surprise, surprise!! we read "TRIUMPH TR : 2010" So TR it likely will be (a good point by step_7 "will the Germans make something called Spitfire!! Well, Britons bought Heinkels and Messerschmidts in the 1950s!) BMW have publicly stated that they intend to launch a 4th brand to add to BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce. They own the Triumph and Riley marques, having disposed of the others when they sold Rover. Under the then MD a few years it was even considered to reintroduce Riley and even some mock-up pictures were published. Surely after all these years Riley has very little international recognition, unlike Triumph. Last edited by billy.batson : Mar 8th, 2008 at 11:52 AM. |

| Are we nearly there yet? | Since Germany is one of the nations in the Eurofighter project, and the plane is being called the "Typhoon", then I don't see why there should be any real objection to an iconic name like "Spitfire".........and anyway, if the main market is to be the USA and the UK, I suppose they could always call it something else for the domestic German market....... No R57D until 2010? |

| Are we nearly there yet? | I thought most of the Poles are now working in UK anyway, so does it really matter where they build the cars, just so long as they are built properly (not a claim that could be applied to several old British marques!!!) ![]() No R57D until 2010? |

Offline | personally I couldn't care less where a car is built, its more where its designed that gives it character, hence I don't think its a problem that Aston's designed in the Midlands are manufactured abroad, a Triumph designed in Munich wouldn't be British if it was handmade by the royal family in Windsor castle! |

Offline | Don't worry, because of it's much higher ionisation potential it's a lot less dangerous than Green Kryptonite. Take it from me. ![]() On the subject of Triumph. Any British Triumph car would IMO obviously be a continuation of the TR range. If it's going to be a "retro", then it will be based on the TR4 shape. I can't imagine they would progress on from the TR7/8 shape, although again IMO the TR8 arguably had the best engine of the lot of them. Imagine a supercharger (or two) on that!! As a "closet" Triumph fan I can't wait to see it. ![]() |

Offline | You know, with all this talk about Triumphs, I should probably mention that my Dad actually just bought one about 2 weeks ago. I don't think he'd mind me putting the picture up so, for all of you 'closet' Triumph fans out there, here it is:1961 Triumph TR3A NeuroBeaker - Proud owner of "Zeus" (a 'slightly modified' 2004 MINI ONE). *WARNING!* Thesis writing in progress. Offline | Gorgeous car! Apparently my dad had one of those before I was born and had to get rid of it to get a "family" car. I think he's still bitter about it! ![]() |

| Are we nearly there yet? | Ok - and just how many pedestrians have been hit by cars in the UK in the last year? (then deduct those where the pedestrian was at fault). I have a gut feeling that massive expense has been incurred throughout the motor indusry t make all new cars more pedestrian-friendly, when the actual number of pedesrian related accidents is not that huge....... I'd be happy to be corrected - anyone got any figures? (Sorry if this has deviated a bit from the Triumph story). Ian No R57D until 2010? |

Offline | New Isetta? Further on the subject of additional brands from the BMW stable, whilst Triumph seems to be the front runner, CAR Magazine is now speculating that BMW will re-introduce the Isetta brand with a new small car at the Geneva Motor Show. This seems rather unlikely...or does it? We remember the Isetta as a tiny three-wheeler (though it had 4 wheels in Germany). Anyhow I thought Isetta was a brand owned by the Italian ISO company, did BMW acquire that firm I wonder. |

Offline | Whilst I generally agree with you and I remember reading that about 30% of pedestrian accidents are to do with alcohol consumption by the pedestrian the laying of blame on the pedestrian is not always the easy way out.If, god forbid, I had an accident where I hit a child REGARDLESS of who is at fault, I would rather the car had been engineered so that child had the best possible chance of survival. |
