Convertible Mini?

Hey all, I think i've made up my mind on which Mini I want! I think I want a Mini One convertible, but are they good?
I dont want to go and test drive one yet as I'll feel like I'll want to commit and buy, which I dont want to do just yet!
Im 17, but will b 18 in July so I think I'll purchase in around August if I can afford to.
I love Minis and I love convertibles, so I think this is the perfect combo! Although I've never driven one... are they slow? Do they still have god handling? I expect I'll get it chipped to get a perforance gain, but it depends how much its going to affect my insurance, having a mini convertible will push the premium up high enough as it is, and a chip might have to wait for a little while, so for the time being, if its got sufficient power then thats good enough for me!
Does anyone here own 1 that can tell me more about road noice, any problems they've encountered etc...
Thankyou!

I bought a mate of mines 2004 ONE convertible last month,Ive previously had 2 Cooper S'.
To be honest as I live and drive in London and the ONE is fine,.....Im lucky to be able to get up to 40 mph between speed humps and speed cameras..........If this is your first Mini then it will be fine for you ,if you want you can have the engine management re programmed to get it up to similar level of a cooper for £300 (Bluefin most common).
Ive certainly had great fun with the top down in the last couple of weeks, would suggest you pick up a wind deflector (there are loads of good second hand ones for sale ...look in classifieds on here or on e bay)
Ive just put a jcw strut brace on it and I've got a jcw air filter to put on.Ive got my 18" Dare x4 wheels (which I'd previously had on my last S ),to put on next week.I'll get the engine re programmed and thats it (unless I can find a set of Aero side skirts !) ....... oh yes and remove the ONE badge and maybe some shark fin vents with clear lenses at the side in place of the black ones with yellow lenses ...............and so it goes

Thannks for the reply!! OMG ur mini convertible sounds like its on its way 2 looking gawjus! Hav u got any pics?
I'd considered the bluefin engine thing, which is something that'd i'd love... but as im young, just affording the insurance on a mini convertible at the age of 17-18 would cost a bomb! So perhaps after a year or two, I'd get that! But Im sure for the time being a standard mini one engine is more than capable!
Im just looking forward to driving in country lanes in a tight mini (with the roof down when we actually get some rays!)
Thanks again!!

I have a ONE convertible, and I love her to bits!
Only problem I had is the roof wouldn't open/close and the frame/mechanism had to be replaced, but since then she's been fantastic! When I take her for a bath, the water does dribble in onto the seats when a jet wash is used.

Here she is before the transformation..

OMG Victoria that is a very nice mini there! Looks juch better with the bullet wheels u got on it!! Also johnlondonw3 (i take ur name is john lol!) ur mini is pretty sweet 2!! Luv the cula of it!!

U know it said that it leaks onto the seat, that would indicate a hole somewhere (cor im a genius) when driving at speed does air whistle in? Also whats the road noise like??
Oh god i so jealous!! I really want a red mini (pretty much exactly the same as urs victoria)

Oh another thing thats just crossed my mind... whats it like driving with the roof down and all the windows down? Is it worth having a wind deflector?
Thankyou both!!

Nope, no holes.. A friend of mine has one too, and hers does exactly the same. Its literally a dribble, no more

DEF get a wind deflector, makes a hell of a difference

Ah right, ok then, yeah I think I'll invest in a wind deflector once i've actually got the Mini!! I was day dreaming today and... yup you guessed it... a mini was in my mind!
There was something else I was going to ask you victoria, but I cant remember what for the life of me! I rembered wat it was at work and I should have written it down! Oh well, it cant be anyhing that important if I can't remember wat it was! lol!
(this isnt it but...) Do you get many people that stare or point as you drive around? I'd love that, just some letting you know that they appreciate your car! lol!

yep!! A Lot of the time actually!!

I love it when I'm walking to my car in a car park, and I see people walking past her and they look back or point, makes meaware that all my hard work was worth it
Now is the best time to buy a convertible, as soon as summer hits the ££ will shoot up! x

hehe!! Good well thats what I'd love too... and more importantly, i've remembered what I was going to ask you!!
ou know you changed your wheels to a set of different Mni wheels, did you have to notify your insurance provider because their still Mini wheels?
Sorry if you cant make any sense of that, if you can't, then dont worry!! Thank you!!

Well, I didn't inform the insurance company as everything on the car is Mini, and essentially could have been on the car standard, you know? I think and hope anyway...

Aw thanks, yeah I cant wait to get a Mini convertible, although my sister's like "errr their hideous!" Which is making me hate her! I just think their the best drop top car around, well the most stylish anyway! Mini's are a bit of a statement in my opinion, they let people know
* You're individual & unique
* You care about what you look like
* You've got a bit of money
* And that your a fun person!
I think every person that has a Mini can say they agree with that, or atleast most of them anyway!
Anyhoo, thank you all for all your answers to my questions!! I hope to be driving a cheeky mini convertible soon and will be waving to other Mini owners! (I hope people with Mini's near me wave back!!) lol!
