Yeh the plasctic key works like a normal key - its can start the car & do most of the actions of normal key. The only thing its says in the handbook its not meant to be for everyday/regular use.

Was that in the car then or was that how they got the car??

Hope you get your pride & joy back soon - i know i would be gutted

Shame i cant be any other help as i dont live that way

i am so sorry to hear about this. having had mine stolen from outside the house it is gut wrenching.
are there any other distinguishing marks apart from the stripes? the plates will have been changed immediately. the wheels look less usual so fingers crossed someone will spot them .

The only thing the wallet key dosent do is the glove box!

It's meant for valet parking!

Sorry for you troubles mate! - hope the local vigilantes get them before the cops!

That was the key they took.. never thought to hide that properly... oh well...

Only other distinguishing features are the alloys.. bonnet stripes.. hartge badge on rear and bigger exhaust...

No news from the cops.. got the "loss adjusters" coming round later.. as it's my first claim they want receipts for items over £250 and if I can't provide it (I do have photgraphs of some of the items) it's up to there discression... I mean who has the receipt for a PC they bought 4 yrs ago??

My Mercedes got stolen, and unfortunately I got to see it afterwards. Then, while it was at the garage, awaiting extensive repairs, it got stolen again. This time it did not show up again, fortunately.

95% of the time it is better to not see that stolen car again.

I will never have a tracking device in my car. Why anyone want that is beyond me. Just let it go.

TBH ...this is the opinion i have too!
What put me off is that one time I bought a 2nd hand Beemer with a tracker fitted. I was going to pay to activate it but my insurance company said that they would not reduce my premium for having the tracker! - so in the end I just thought blow it! why should I bother, in the end it can only save them a fortune by not having to replace a missing car!

I've also seen quite a few stolen recovered cars, and there is no way I'd want mine back!

if the time comes when they offer you what they feel is a good deal for your car, for god's sake do not accept their first offer. they will look on autotrader and pick the cheapest model. they make look at glasses too but mine based their offer on autotrader which i had also checked and then they quoted me an erroneous price too. they hastily offered me a far more realistic quote therafter. i hope it doesn't come to this if you want your mini back but should it do be wary.

I talked to my insurance about having a tracker fitted, and they said they would give me a £65 discount - about half the price of a year's tracking.

I've had three cherished Minis and it was only with the 3rd Mini that I got the 3 keys with it. I think the dummy one is what they use for making new keys quickly. As someone said it can be used as normal key

Should the alarm not go off if you put the key in and open the door?? I only say this as my central locking didn't work when I came out of a shop and I put the key in, opened the door and the alarm went off. Thats if there was a standard alarm on the car?? I thought that by using the fob to unlock the car it also knocks off the alarm to prevent this happening? My alarm was going off and wouldn't turn off until my fob worked 5 embarrassing minutes later.

With the R56 does it even come with a 3rd key (not the one in the end of the fob) because you wouldn't even be able to start the car! would you?

Yes it comes with a little white key, I'm not shore how it works, Was talking about this with some one who works at my dads office we could not work it out, Might just be in-case you lock your key in the car

unless from pics iv seen the little white key has a chip in the top so maybe this can start the car ?
