Newer Mini ?

Thinking of buying a '02 "S" series. Anything special to look out for? Are there advantages to newer model cars or are they basically the same car from '02 to present. In other words, any major problems with the early years? Is the "S" model worth the extra money? I currently have a '95 M3 coupe. Thanks
