How do I check my fan works - Never Seen It on!

As the title says.
I have had my car since December and never seen my engine fan come on. I have a 40amp fuse as I have checked and although I do a lot of motorway miles, I also sit in traffic quite a bit. Should I have noticed the engine fan come on? How do I check it's working?

Since you have only had the car in Winter it probably never got hot enough for the fan to kick in.

If you are confident working with car electrics temporarily connect the fan motor to a live feed bypassing any switch /sensors. If it turns fan is ok. The fan resistor can be replaced but is situated under a plastic cover and wires are soldered in place.(see Haynes Manual page 3.4). The coolant temperature sensor is fitted to the LH end of the cylinder head. (see photo also in Haynes manual)The temperature gauge and cooling fan are both operated by the ECU using the signal from this sensor.
