5meodmt is correct in saying that his injuries may not have been as bad had he been driving a MINI (or for that matter any other newer car with more airbags and a higher NCAP rating) but that doesn't mean the Ka is unsafe.

Wet, muddy roads can be dangerous in any car, and front airbags are designed not to go off in a side impact, so again the fact that the accident happened does not mean the Ka is unsafe.

I sold hundreds of Ka from 1997-2005 and can count on the fingers of one hand the number I've seen involved in an accident that resulted in serious injury to the occupants.

Got to agree, the Ka is a great little car, as safe as is needed, if driven within its own limits, at the end of the day it won't drive like a MINI so shouldn't be pushed as hard as a MINI

But glad to hear that the driver is alive to drive another day, and might hopefully learn to take it a bit easier according the vehicle and road conditions.

I didn't mean it

I was on the way to the garage to pick up my mini, which was getting some things done in warrenty, country roads, wet, muddy, the curtusy car i was given a ford ka didnt cope and lost it on a corner, i wasnt speeding, ended up on wrong side of rd with a on-comming car, which i avoided but the ka spun and i ended up sideways into a tree, luckily no passengers, just me. ka smashed, andme? well punctured lung which is still closely monitored as its not healing yet, 3 cracked ribs, broken shoulder and bruising, mostly internal injurys

airbad in ka didnt go off, i know that if i had crashed the mini i would be at home now,ok but depressed, not sure which is worse, im glad my mini is safe, but it looks like i will be stuck in hospital for a good week, most likely more, at least im alive!

what a nitemare, will never get in or buy a car that isnt 5 star safety rated ever again.

well bac 2 crap telly at extorinate cost, jeez this patientline keyboard is hardwork, owww at least the pain killers help most of the time, and i will get some time off work,

please drive safely.

Sounds nasty.

I hope you get well soon. I'm glad you're here to the tale.

Got to say,

How do you over cook it in a ford Ka. One of the best handling little cars out there. i would probably say it would give a mini a run for its money on the handling front

Nah thats the fiesta! The standard Ka is total crap! Unless they have done a serious suspension overhaul in the last couple of years!

The standard KA is OK - Just runs out of grip way to quickly, which sounds like what probably happened here. My MK6 Fiesta is a very good car to drive - Just rolls/runs out of grip a little quicker than the Mini, not bad for a mass-produced car for so little money.

Wishing you once again a speedy recovery 5meodmt

I am please to here that you are home and on the mend. Take good care of yourself and do not be tempted to do too much before you are well enough.

sorry the following is slightly graphic and scary..!!

well just when i thought i was on the mend, i started feeling dodgy last Saturday, well after 2 visits to docs whom didnt seem concerned (GP and NHS24) and then feeling extremely faint and my stools turning v black, i got rushed to hospital on Wednesday with serious internal bleeding due to side effect from one of the 3 pain killers i was perscribed to cope with the pain

well after my heart was stop/started 3 times by A&E and various tests, tube down throat and some minor surgery, i eventually got 4 pints of blood & 7 bottles of omeprazole through IV i got released this afternoon, how f-ing scary im in bits!!

well boys and girls if you get perscribed diclofenac and have to take it for a extended period to cope with pain, read the warning leaflet it may save your life! christ my doc even said 1 day before i phoned the ambulance "ahh just stop them for a couple of days then start them again" , great advise!

more time off work!!

i cant take aspirn or ibroprofen ever again, and im now on omeprazole for life!

take care all!!

That must have been terrifying for you. Diclofenac is a heavily prescribed medication, not one for me from now on.
Hope you are feeling better and recover quickly.
