Help & Advice on garage repair

I have recently developed the fault of engine bunny hopping and suddenly cutting out. I took it to an independant garage who specialise in modding mini's and have used them in past on previous mini of mine. They diagnosed problem as a cracked pipe somewhere which required replacing along with a sensor (apparrantly £150!!) which totalled £270 inc labour. Anyhow, after driving for approx 3 mins once I exceeded 3.5k revs engine cut out, fault obviously still very present!!! Rang up garage whom were appologetic and said to bring in at my conveniece and they would run diagnostic check again.

Having done my research on mini2 it became clear that it could be 1 of the following problems :1) bypass valve, 2) t map sensors, 3) spark plugs, or 4) ingnition wires. So, when I returned my car to garage I made a note of these and passed them on.

Car is now in garage awaiting the delivery and fitting of a new bypass valve!!

My dilema/problem is when I return to collect my car (JCW MCS) and fault is cured, what should I be expected to pay??? Feel hard done by having forked out £270 which has not made the slightest bit of difference, and to have to pay more on top of this just because fault was not diagnosed properly in first place. I wish I had diagnosed it for him the first time I took it!!!

Your thoughts and advice is much appreciated.

Having forked out £270 for a no fix, I`d be very P****D OFF. I would`nt mind paying for the bypass valve but i certanly would`nt be paying out for any more labour. Maybe ask the garage for a free valet as away of good will compensation or discount servicing or somthing. If you don`t ask, you don`t get. They can only say no.

Thanks for that. Was thinking along the same lines-pay for part but no more labour charges!!!!

My initial reaction is that if the initial £270 is more than the cost of the bypass valve + labour for fitting, you shouldn't pay any extra. However the garage could argue that you have benefitted from the fitment of new parts elsewhere. Pay for the part but don't pay for the labour. Good luck.
