crash damage - whats your thoughts?

left the car park outside on the road, came to it this morning and someones belted it! UNBELIEVABLE!

the insurance have taken it away but i'd be interested in seeing what you think to the level of damage? The impact was on the drivers side, and the shunt up the kerb has bent the passenger side rear wheel.

Is this repairable and will it be safe? It's a late 2002 MCS. My pride and joy!!!

did you get the other drivers details...

I hope they didn't drive off after that!

I'm sure it will be repairable & will be safe after the repair, all I would say is ring your dealer & find out who their authorised repairer is, cos no doubt your insurance company will want to take it to one of their repairers who may not be MINI approved.

Hope you get it sorted ASAP & tat it's not off the road for too long

Sorry to see that.....

The panels can be replaced, and providing its done by a good bodyshop will look as good as new, and be perfectly safe.

The damage to the wheel and suspension might be a bit trickier depending on what has been broken/bent, but again, providing its done by a good repairer, there shouldn't be a problem.

Best of luck

Hmmm, it's going to the insurers company for assessment, they are TFSmith in Bradford? Not sure what reputation they have?

You do now have the right to appoint your own repairer or bodyshop. Of course, you'll want to appoint your local MINI dealer or approved bodyshop.

If the insurance company ask why, tell them not doing so would invalidate the corrosion warranty on my vehicle, and seriously affect its resale value. That usually works.

Thanks for all the replies.

I am particularly picky about getting things done well, so having MINI do it would give me much greater peace of mind. I will call insurers tomorrow see what they say.

Sorry to see that has happened to you. Had an almost identical damage situation recently. Needed new rear side panel, sideskirt, rear bumper, wheel & suspension.

All sorted by an approved repairer very quickly and to high standard. They have to get it inspected for safety as well.

Total came in at about £2500 so imagine yours may be a bit higher due to the door. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

Oh, and if you have any paint chips or scratches it mught be worth having a word with the repairer. My bodyshop touched up a few chips for me free of charge while he had it in!

My friend had a similar situation. Her car was parked next to a kerb in a residential street. A nother left her 4 yr old kid in the car who took the handbrake off - they rolled down the hill straight into the side of my mates mini. She was lucky enough to get the persons insurance details and got it fixed.

You can only imagine the telling off that kid would have got - still the parent shouldn't have left them in the car unsupervised.

I had an Ibiza that I owned repaired there. It was Metalic Copper Orange colour. They didn't match the colour very well despite it going back twice. Also they fitted the wrong plastic bits in the bumper and forgot to paint them. The rest of the work was good and the car did not drive any differently. They were more than happy to change the things that they got wrong and I know they tried their best to fix the paint colour but it was never right.

I can't believe someone did this to your car and drove off. Did you report it to the police?
