Offline | bye bye JCW :( Well after nearly 1.5 years of MINI ownership I'm saying goodbye I sold the JCW yesterday and its being collected on Monday. When I got my first MCS in December '06 I was thrilled with the car and was very attached to it, until the head gasket went in September '07 and it was bought back by the dealer and replaced with the JCW. The JCW never felt quite as "special" as my original first MINI, Although I enjoyed driving it things like washing and waxing it felt like a chore (It still got done weekly though), with the first car I always enjoyed it, spending up to 8 hours on a Sunday polishing, vacuuming and all that. About four weeks ago I purchased a 1984 Land Rover 90. It has a top speed of 60mph and has none of the luxuries that I have been used to, but I love it! Its a vehicle I can work on, improve and modify myself which will give me a lot of satisfaction and pride. The plan is to turn it into a well specced adventurer/tourer capable of travelling long distance and off road. Another bonus is that it achieves better fuel economy (32mpg), costs less to tax , insure and is fully paid for, it all adds up to a £320 per month saving! I'll still have a fondness for MINI and won't be leaving it totally behind, my garage houses a 1968 classic and plenty of friends and family have new MINIs! |

| Dodgey, er, dodgem driver | I remeber your thread re possibly changing your JCW - Now the deed has been done!! Shame to hear about your sale - But every good thing has to come to an end at some stage ![]() 32mpg from a 90?! Is that the N/A 2.5? I almost got a 90 for my first motor, but 26 odd mpg put me off! (The 200TDI) I still wish I had the Shogun or the Grand Cherokee Missing off-roading soooo badly ![]() |

Offline | Yeah, its the NA, which is right slug compared with the JCW, but the JCW did 25mpg and cost more than ten times the amount! I'll be back to MINI ownership I'm sure, probably when I can afford to run a JCW as a second car with no finance. |

Offline | Sure is an unusual and interesting replacement. It's an amazing quirk of our new "green" RFL system that a L-R 90 costs less to tax than a modern 1.6 petrol, but there you go! ![]() Hope you have lots of fun with it! ![]() Tigger. ![]() May 08: Thanks to all of my friends on Mini2 for a lot of great times over the last 4 years. In future I can always be contacted here! |

Online | Sorry to hear that the JCW has to go, but I can see where you are coming from about the Land Rover. My Dad owns a 2003 Discovery and a 2005 Defender. I have been lucky enough to be insured on both at various points over the past year or so... ![]() The 90 is by far my favourite. We have a 90 XS CSW, with a few 'luxuries' well for a Defender at least!! It looks great, and is suprisingly nippy given that it weighs so much. A trip to JE would no doubt see it being quicker to 60 than my ONE D ![]() I'm working on my Dad to take the plunge, haha.![]() |
