Offline | Fuel consumption seems high Hi, I bought a 53 plate MCS last month and I have to say I'm loving the speed of the car, but not the speed the money disappears out of my wallet to pay for fuel! I've filled up 4 times now and I've never managed to get more than about 280 miles out of it. I don't leave it to run to empty (as the last time I did that, I had the flu and was driving to get drugs from the chemist and ran out half way there. It was a long walk to the garage to get fuel!), so there is probably another 20-30 miles in it. Even so, it does seem a little thirsty given that the official figures for the car are somewhere in the order of: Urban - 24.8 Extra Urban - 41.5 Combined - 33.6 I do about 35 miles per day. I hit the dual carriageway half a mile from my house, which then turns into a motorway about two miles further on for about another 11 miles, before I exit straight onto another dual carriageway for a couple more miles. The last part of my journey is about a couple of miles of A roads. With the odd small trip here and there, I'm re-fuelling once a week. I don't hammer it from standing still, don't ton it down the motorway and don't redline it before changing gear. In fact, I've been trying to drive it like an old man just to see how much I can get out of a tank (1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th!), but I've been nowhere near 33mpg even with my flat cap on. I don't use the aircon (though sometimes use the heater), don't drive with my lights on permanently Other people on the forum appear to have been getting much more out of a tank than I have (over 380). It's due an oil service soon, but is there anything more I should check out? Are air filters likely to be the culprits? Cheers, Andy |

Offline | 280 miles from a tank is good, I've never had more than 240 from either my 53 plate MCS or my 04 JCW. (and thats leaving nothing in the tank, 0 to empty showing on the range!) |

Offline | I'm getting rid of my MCSC on Sunday. I do about 80 miles a day and need to fill up every few days. So need to get rid Hyper Blue/Blue MCSC with Chilli 'No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself' A. Carnegie |

Offline | I do about 300 miles a week in my ONE. I would normally get that out of a tank though, 300 miles so I only have to fill up once a week. I drive it to empty though then put about £47 in. The most I ever got out of a tank was 370 miles and that was with me driving up and down from the city every day. ![]() |

Offline | I've got over 420 miles out of a tank from my '06 model year supercharged S. More normally it's around 340-360 miles per tank, with a normal average of between 33 and 34mpg, maxing out at around 39mpg. However, I'm very, very really stuck in stop-start traffic (that's a real killer for the S) and I usually cruise at 60 on A roads and 70 on motorways. It doesn't often go above 3,000 rpm and it gets driven gently most of the time and, you know what? I still enjoy driving it ![]() The air filter is meant to be changed at the 60,000 mile service which is approximately twice the useful life of the air filter. It's definitely worth taking a look and if it's the original you'll probably be shocked at how blocked it is. Obvious, I know, but don't forget to check those tyre pressures. Tigger. May '08: Due to certain recent events on this site, I no longer wish to continue posting on Mini2. Such a shame after 4 otherwise very happy years on here If you are a friend, I can always be contacted here! |

Offline | it is so true though!! When I changed mine it made a difference in performance as well as mpg. Alot smoother through the revs. My old one was filled with crap though, it was disgraceful! ![]() |

| MINI2 Senior | I also get about 280 miles from my 2003 MCS - 30 mpg. Later models (ie, 2nd generation), were better on the fuel though. My advice - don't worry too much. You only live once, and you may aswell enjoy it! Now put your foot down and listen to that supercharger whine ![]() PS - Welcome to the forum, and don't forget to post some pics of your car ![]() ![]() |
