Unhappy Accident

Well i went out for a drive in my ONE this afternoon with my dad to the MINI garage to get an ipod cable and on the way home we were on a dual carraigeway and i had to change lanes so i looked in my mirror signaled and checked again was totally clear because the lights we had gone through had changed so i started moving over and all i see is my wingmirror flying off i steered away from it and i was in soooooooooo much shock because when i had looked there was nobody atall behind they were all behind the lights so this guy must of come from the corner and just zooomed ahead and was obviously not looking at the road maybe at his phone or something right into me. so anyway we stopped at the side of the road and this guy got out and looked at his van (yes a white van driver, always be weary) and started blaming it on me i was shaken so my dad just dealt with it but the guy was refusing to give any details saying his van was fine and it was my fault and its only my car thats damaged eventually my dad got his details.

so i decided on the way home that im not going to go to my insurance because its my word against his, he is blaming me, no witnesses and im only 17, still a learner so i will lose out on my no claims and my premium will go up and i will have that accident on record for 5 years.

I dont know if i want to drive again because i keep thinking its my fault until i think well no there was nobody there and the fact of it is if i had pulled out and he was there if his full attention was on the road he would of braked.

all i wanted him to do was admit it was his fault becuase it has really knocked my confidence im not gonna get insurance involved or get him to pay i simply wanted him to say ok i wasnt paying attention.

anyway its done and i cant change the past but i think i may need a new driver side door panel because it is badly dented and scratched and i will need a new wing mirror we are going to call mini first thing tomorrow does anybody have any idea how much it may set me back?

i think if i get it fixed it might make things better but i am just gonna stick with walking for now

Jess

Sorry to hear this. The other driver is never going to admit to it being their fault Don't give up on the driving. The best thing to do is get straight back into it to rebuild your confidence.

I hope this works out for you

Oh no Jess Had you checked the blind spot rather than just looking in the mirror?

I know only too well what its like to have someone hit you and its not your fault, and also have no witnesses Luckily my accident wasnt in my car, and in the end it didnt go through insurance I just paid for the damage as it was a damn sight easier than fighting it, even though the loser was blatently in the wrong lane!

Hope its sorted soon!

The best thing to do is to get back out on the road again as soon as possible otherwise it will really affect your confidence

Sorry but if you pulled out on him then it wasn't his fault, ok he could have been paying more attention and taken evasive action. But then he probably wasn't expecting you to pull out into his lane when he's nearly along side you! Learn from the incident, you'll never do that again!

me and my dad both checked, by the time he hit me i was half way in the lane so he cant say he never saw me plus i used my indicators which half the drivers on the road never do

Well all have bumps and Accident, The main thing is that you and your dad is ok. Cars are fine they can be fixed up and look as good as new .

Just take it as a experience and get back out there and drive again

But if when he hit you when you were halfway into the lane, then he must have been there when you were going over

Either way, its not a nice thing to happen and as Jordan says, at least you and your dad are ok the car can be fixed

I had a very close miss on Friday; coming out of a cul-de-sac and one minute no car there, next a darn Range Rover went past me at about 50 mph in a 30 mph zone; it actually swung my car and I was edging out to turn and it missed me by a split hair; talk about life flash before your eyes.

Get back at the helm though, best way and even start on the quieter roads to start with. You will be fine. Be strong.

There are too many idiots on the road who just dont care; going to work on friday I was going around small round about when someone pulled straight onto it without even stopping or looking, ive no idea how she managed to miss the front end of my car and thank god for my quick reflexes on the brakes and that of the person in the car behind me!!

Wow that first sentence was the longest i've ever read, have you come up for air yet!!

Unfortunately accidents happen, i've had two in the last 8 months, one which the other party is currently denying so know how you feel.

However, no matter how bad you feel it is really important to get back on the road and not leave it too long before you do, you'll get your confidence right back!

Also, i'm sure you will never, ever change lanes again without making sure there is no incoming vehicle on the other lane, regardles of who's fault it was this time. Things like this are going to happen many times in yur driving life and will only really make you a better driver.

Jess, I'm 40 years older than you and I'm still learning (about the way things happen) - I can assure you.

As long as you learn from every mile of every day that you drive, you'll be OK.

It will never save the heartbreak of a broken car though.

If the man was refusing to give his details, this needs to be reported (something to hide??). Also, there is a witness in regards to this: your father.

Don't give up on driving, we all have prangs and scrapes, just makes us better drivers.

Remember - always stay to the left....

I honestly think he had either pulled out to overtake or come from the corner and going too fast and not paying attention because i was going the speed limit and when he scraped along my side of the car he was going way faster. Also when i was moving over lanes i was gradually moving over because it was at speed so i couldnt jus go straight over like ive done before and my dad screamed lol

If i was to blame i would admit it cos its me that has to pay for the damage anyways

sorry to hear that Jess it does knock your confidence after an accident, even if you weren't driving, but the best thing you can do is get out driving again though
