there should be a plaque on the top of the engine and a fitting certificate, lots of second hand jcw's have lost the cert tho

I have seen those plaques for sale on eBay recently. The BMW dealership should be able to give you a full list of everything that has ever been done to the vehicle within the BMW network.

Thats the MINI fitting instructions for the early 200BHP JCW Kit, the later 210 Kit had different injectors and the airbox. Visually parts you'll see
exterior badges (if fitted)
engine plaque
airbox with JCW badge (if its a 210bhp)
JCW Intercooler Cover
JCW Exhaust

the rest you really can't tell easily, one cylinder head looks pretty much like another to the untrained eye (definately me ). Howver all those visible parts could be fitted without the rest and as Bhozar says the engine plaques are turning up on eBay. Personally I feel it's a little early in the cars life for a lot of fakes being sold as the real thing but have no doubt that as the MINI's price drops fakes will become more common.

You best bet is to spaek with the dealer as Bhozar suggests or if you buying private/non BMW dealer get the JCW Plaque, registration and VIN numbers and I would think any MINI dealer would be able to tell you from those

As you are buying from a MINI dealership, ask them to give you a copy of the VZAR print-out. This will show you a full list of all the factory-fitted options.

If it's not on that list it will be a dealer-fitted kit, which means it could be missing the suspension and/or brakes (both of which are easy to check). Everything else is the same.

The fact that a MINI dealership is advertising the car as a JCW means it definitely is one, so you've nothing to worry about there.

Only if the dealership that did the work put any details on. Mostly, it's just a list of visits with 'Service' or 'Bodyshop' etc as the reason.
