to warranty or not??

like many of you my car is now three years old.

what are you lot doing? are you extending the warranty or risking it? its around £500 from mini all in. does this mean i can just take it along for nearly anything, squeak/rattle etc like before...

or do you reckon its best to just chance it and drive it and hope nothing major goes wrong!!

i really really dont know what to do...any advice much appreicated

going by my experiences with our MINIs I will get the extended warranty if I keep my car after it's 3 years old. better to be safe than sorry, it only takes a major component to go and the warranty has paid for it's self. don't think the warranty covers things like rattles tho unless something which is covered by the warranty has broken.

Just took out the MINI extended warranty on my 2003 cooper and very glad I did. Since getting it i've been covered for new air con condenser, power steering pump, alternator and an electric window motor.

My factory warranty was up in March and I went for the £500ish "no excess" policy.

I've already had the following on mine:
Steering column
Engine mount
Drive shaft
Brake fluid reservoir
Software Update

All I had to do was drop it into the dealership, work was carried out just the same as when I had the factory warranty .

So, it's more than paid for itself already and at least I know my servicing is covered via TLC and my extended warranty will cover any mechanical/electrical repairs with the exception of wear and tear items........nice to know up front what the running costs will be when petrol is climbing at the rate it is..

Considering the S is just under £600 a year for me to insure (pleasure and business use), overall the MINI is a very cheap car to keep on the road IMO..

I have recently looked into the costs of running an 02/03 BMW 3-Series or MB CLK and in both instances the running costs were substantially more than the S..

I think the extended warranty is a bargain, especially considering EU-wide MINI Assist is included.

Cheers, Geoff.

I have been out of my warranty now for about a year, can I still go along to the dealer and pay for the extended warranty? or is they some 'test's my car has to pass first (because its been out of warranty for nearly a year)

No you can't extend it. You have to extend it before the original 3 yr warranty expires.

Mine expires in 3 weeks on my 2004 MCSW purchased about about this time last year, and have just signed up for a year. Had my power steering go about 6 months ago, covered by the Cherished warranty.
