I am confused - so if the facelift happened July 2004 - How come I see 53plate MINIs with the 3-spoke steering wheel - or was this introduced earlier than Jul 2004

You can have them fitted as an accessory. That may be why!

Also, the 2 spoke steering wheel was available throughout, but after the facelift, I tend to see bout half with 3 spoke, the other half with 2. Personal preference I guess.

M.O.S. - get your facts right!!

The three spoke wheel was introduced in 2003 before the facelift. 53 Plate cars could be ordered with the three spoke wheel.

It was continued after the facelift, and was an upgrade included in the Chili pack on both the Cooper and S - non Chili cars will have had the 2-spoke wheel, unless the three spoke was specified separately or retrofitted.

I never said it wasn't available, just I know quite a few had it fitted as an accessory, either as JCW or just standard. I didn't say this, but I've never seen a prefacelift with the 3 spoke.

Anyway, the Chili pack upgraded the steering wheel regardless, to either the 3 spoke or the Cooper S 2 spoke, which wasn't standard either!

Great info thanks - were there any other options introduced in 2003, which older minis didnt have? or was it just the steering wheel?
