Offline | I've had my Launch Edition Cooper for two months now, and I am starting to get urges to modify it, 17", Aerokit etc. However the money that I could spend on this car COULD be put towards the difference between my Cooper and a new Cooper S. I love my car but alittle more pep wouldn't go amiss. I'm not sure what to do. Any advice would be great as I probably won't be able to test drive one. |

| MINI2 Master | Definitely test drive one before you put money down on one. Are you sure B-K doesn't have one to test drive? I hear they have an S on the lot right now waiting to be bought! See www.miniwaterloo.ca and click on the showroom. It is at the bottom for some reason (would have expected it to be at the top). It is Dark Silver with a white roof plus panoramic, sport package (17" wheels), etc. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! Offline | Thats the one Harry, Dark Silver with all the extras. But it is not available for test driving. As as the swap is concerned, If I spend $3000 on a set of 17" wheels, I might as well buy an S with the 17" already on it and get a faster engine at the same time. However I love my Launch Edition. Hard decision. |

Offline | Enjoy your Launch Edition Cooper for the time being and wait another year or so when the 2004 models are launched. I think is worth waiting to see if MINI makes some performance enhancements to these cars, particulary the 'S' model right out of the box. If you feel that you have to have it now, go for it, but I would suggest to wait and see what 2004 has in store for MINI. You have a very nice and special machine in that Launch Edition. I would not let go of a "Limited Edition" model so easily. Take it for what is worth. Cheers! '02 MINI Cooper CVT On Order: 2004 MCS (Est production date: 9/5/03) |

| MINI2 Master | They don't have any S cars to test drive? Sucks! Oh well, means I'll never be tempted anyways ![]() Yes, it is a tough decision, Alex. To me it is more about looks than anything else as I can make my Cooper go as fast as I want, and looks are entirely a personal choice. Since you are looking into aero kits, etc., you obviously don't mind changing the looks to suit your needs. In stock form, I prefer the looks of the Cooper (including the bumpers and spoiler) and I prefer the 16" 5-star wheels to any of the S wheel choices but if you're considering changing the bumpers, spoilers and wheels then the sky (and your bank account ) is the limit! Can you get all your money back on a Cooper->S trade? The price difference between a new Launch Edition Cooper and an S with sport package is more than $3000, actually $4000 assuming yours hasn't depreciated (add another $450 to the S price if you like the heated seats of the LE). Offline | I think I'll wait for the 2004 range, I know I seem impatient but not really. I love my Launch Edition. But when you see one in the showroom, especially in the colour I originally wanted it's hard to resist. Also I get the best price the newer the car is. I agree, the Cooper front does look better than the S. I heard Mini is redesigning the S front, should be interesting. I'm also going to keep my eyes open for the convertible. Any info on this model would be great. |

| MINI2 Master | What was your original colour of choice again? For me, the fact that IndiBlue was not available on the S when I looked at them was another strike against it. IndiBlue was and still is my favorite. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! Offline | Supercooper, my opinion is that the 'S' represents a bargin if you tally up what you get for the money over the price of a Cooper. I don't know your exact price, but if you look at adding 50hp and the six-speed transmission for about $3000, that is pretty cheap! Take the cost of your Cooper mods and add them up. As a used car, you will be hard pressed to get a return out of them, but a stock 'S' will hold more value. Just a dollars & cents (sense?) approach. JCIP |

Offline | That was my reason for thinking this way in the first place. It will cost me roughly $2000-4000 CND just for decent 17" rims and tires. The dealer was quoting my between $27000-29000 for my Cooper so it seemed a good deal if I went for a stock S plus I get a faster car. Even if I don't use it, it's nice knowing I have it. |

Offline | Harry, my original choice of colour was the Gunmetal Grey and White roof on an S but when I was buying there was not one available for 3-4 months and I didn't want to wait. So I went for the lighter silver with black roof. I love silver anyway. |

| MINI2 Master | People here are going to gasp at your 3-4 month S wait. Of course, any wait seems like an eternity compared to taking one right off the lot like we both did. Offline | I swapped my cooper (which I had for 11 months) for an 'S' and it was definately the right thing to do. ![]() Although don't forget the more exspensive running costs. Fuel & insurance. But for me, still the right thing. ![]() TC DS/W 'S', Chilli, Sony CDX M630 Head unit |

Offline | Very True, There are alot of S's around, especially in the UK, having come from the UK myself the supercharger is an obvious choice. The fact that I use the car everyday is one of the reasons that I went for a Cooper in the first place and also the fact that the residual value on the Launch Edition is great. Out of curiousity, were there any other Special Editions released in any other countries or was Canada the only one. |

Offline | I think Canada was the only North American country to get a special "Launch" edition. There were no special editions issued in the US and Mexico to the best of my knowledge. The new MINI is not currently sold in Central or South America at this time. '02 MINI Cooper CVT On Order: 2004 MCS (Est production date: 9/5/03) |

| MINI2 Master | The only real, true thing that you can't get on a non-Launch Edition car is the numbered tach insert. As a stock, orderable car, the Launch Editions are the only Coopers with the sports package AND chrome bumper inserts -- to make this yourself you'd have to order the sport package and install the chrome bumper inserts yourself. Oh, and another funny thing, the Launch Edition cars are cheaper than you can normally order as they don't have Xenon headlamps so their other 'special' feature is the halogen bulbs, which I actually like as there is less to break (the washer assemblies have flown off some Xenon-equipped cars). So in Canada if you don't want Xenons and you do want a special tach, the Launch Edition is the only way to go ![]() Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart!
