reverse noise

I have a problem with my mini one. Sometimes when I put her into reverse its hard to get in, and allso I have a noise when I reverse. Had it checked at mini garage and they said, When it had been put in reverse aat some point it could have chipped a bit off in the gear box. Have anyone else heard of this. Thanks

There's no synchromesh on reverse gear, so if you try to do it too quickly, it grinds. The best bet is to double clutch it (out of forwards gear, let clutch out, clutch back in, select reverse) and wait for a second or so to allow the gears to stop.
