The only reason that particular retailer is annoyed is because their target market are going to be off-loading their cars at a rate of knots once the new rates come in.
If the new rates were being aimed at vans and trucks instead of cars they wouldn't have even noticed.
I'm in exactly the same position, I own a 03' Cooper-S which is apparantly in Band-K according to the Parker site.
My Road Tax runs out at the end of August 2008, so I've bought 6 months, taking me up to the end of February 2009 before the new rates come into play, which will mean I'll buy a year then at £210. Effectively saving myself £90.
Knowing the Government though, they'll find a way to close this loop-hole just to make a bit more money off of me
