| You have to look carefully. The CD wires in mine, which was delivered Tuesday of this week, were taped with to other wires masking tape behind the little service hatch above the rear right wheel well in the boot. They were laying on top of the wheel well. To make them usable, you simply need to untape them and then feed them down inside and behind the plastic wheel housing. It's difficult to imagine that MINI would be making two different versions of a wiring harness, one with the CD prep and one without. | cd prep That's amazing! Having checked again, you are absolutely right. The plugs are hidden below the masking tape, the larger one just barely visible.Could have spent hours trying to find them without your help. Now all that I have to do is to work out how to mount the changer properly. Thanks |

| CD Changer Prep Kit Changed I had a changer unit fitted this week during the first oil service. The car (Dec 2001 build) already had the prep kit which I'd specified when ordering. To my surprise, the technician told me that the dealers are no longer using that particular prep due to problems it's caused with the electronics. Instead, they used an entirely new set of leads that came with the changer!! Result: higher labour costs than should have been the case. On the plus side, the cost of the unit itself was much lower than I'd expected so it sort of evened out. |

| Installation I'm glad you were able to find the wires. With respect to the installation, each different cd player has a fairly straightforward way for doing this. If as you say you have a bmw cd player, it should be identical to the mini player, unless it is an older model. If it is a fairly recent model, you should be able to go to the parts department at your MINI/BMW dealer and purchase a cd player installation kit. The kit comes with a mounting frame and screws/bolts and nuts to install the player safely and protect it from other things in the boot. I hope that works. Happy Motoring. | One of the options in the Mini Configurator program is to include a CD changer when you're configuring your Mini. When you select the option, the picture below appears. Looks like it's mounted in the boot up against the right-hand side. |

| The picture above makes sense, except for the fact that my BMW unit could not fit flush to the carpet as there is a protrusion on the base(housing female connectors and fuse). Unless, of course, I simply cut a hole in the carpet area, which may be what has been done in the above picture. It is even possible that my Dealer will install for a modest charge?? | As stated in the other thread, you can buy the parts needed to fit the CD changer from your Parts dept. It costs about £15 , these are the parts: 1 x Bracket - 65 12 6 912 286 4 x Screws - 88 10 0 141 191 (to attach the changer to the bracket) 3 x Self Tapping Screws - 51 45 8 236 618 (to attach the bracket to the bodywork) The result looks like this: (minus the MINI sticker ) the MINI has gone... |

| Almost there! - thanks for all your posts. Still trying to figure out how to feed the wires behind the plastic fascia - seems to be no room at all, so in the meantime I have simply made do with a loose fitting cubby hole cover (as per pic). Main thing is that it all works. CR/B MC -------------------- |

| Wow - u've got a red boot!! I have never seen this before, makes me wish i'd gone for red inside instead of black! Back to the point, what is the model of the CD Changer as I want to buy it from my local ICE shop? Thanks Cometh the Hour, Cometh the MINI |

| It's a BMW unit (15 months old) which a mate of mine had installed in a hired 3 series - didn't need it when his Company car arrived. It's not the most up to date model as it skips going over sharp bumps, but who care as it was a freebie - cost me £13 for the fixing bracket and the guy was pleased that it actually works in the Cooper. As for the red boot, here's what the front looks like - cool?? CR/B MC -------------------- |
