I agree whole heartedly with this unfair back-dating....even though I only pay £35 p/a.
However, if they climb down on this......they will have to claw in the tax from somewhere else because they have screwed up our country's finances so so so badly

Exactly, it shouldn't exist for one, but the only fairish way is to impose it upon cars ordered, not those in existence - you didn't realise that this was going to happen until now and you could have had your car for years.
