Should I wax the car when I pick-up at the dealer?

I will pick-up my car at the dealership & I am wondering if I should wax & polish it when I get home???
I appreciate any advice.Thanks.

At my dealer the car will be waxed by one of the staff before I will pick it up.

I think it will be the same with yours. As far as I know there´s a special wax on the car to protect it from the salt water during the shipping. So this has to be removed at the dealer.

For the first few weeks I would simply use a good quality car wash solution which incorporates a wax finish. Once a month (in northern Europe) a gloss guard is useful - should keep the original colour and shine for a few years.Polish is usually only applied to cars over 1 year old which have not been waxed regualrly. Having said all that, everyone has their own ideas and I have been happy with this system.

Question of When to Wax

Noticed lots of rough specks on the car's body not covered by the sheet of plastic during shipment. These are caused by environmental fallouts and if left alone, will eventually cause pitting and rust spots. You can't see them, but run your hand over the paint and you will feel it.

Actually PDI should have taken care of this, but I guess its not their own car, so as long is it is presentable ... off it goes.

After spending a good 4 hours applying pre-wax cleaner and hand polishing, I was able to get the entire car smooth and free of these troublesome spots. Followed up with 2 coats of wax and viola! The car looks absolutely shiny and ready for the car show.

Waxing the car will help protect the paint and make your job of washing a lot easier! What should be avoided is paint sealant! That is a no-no for me. Modern water based paint do not required the usual aging of enamel/acrylic paints before.

WAX it! My dealer said they use a spray on wax!

Went and bought Mother's new Reflection Polish. Nice stuff!
Went on easy and came off easy too. Fortunately, the MINI is small and it takes NO time to finish. Looks really nice now too.

Also, get Mother's Back To Black for the wheel arches and running boards. I highly recommend this for the MINI. Can you tell I am a Mother's fan??!??! Seriously, good stuff.

BTW, the guys at Mother's have two MCS running around the office.

GoMiniGo,

I use Mother's "Back to Black" myself and it makes the wheel arches and running boards look great, but one wash and the stuff just washes off!

Anything out there that can last longer? Somebody suggested tire dressing, but it is too messy.

Is it a good idea to wax the car when new? should we wait a bit for the paint to completly dry before waxing it? I notice some people suggest that for other cars... would this be the same case for the MINI paint?

Yes, because MINI paint is also water-based. In fact, most if not all major car manufacturers have switched to water-based paint to meet environmental standards including Mercedes Benz.

Downside is that the paint is extremely prone to stone chips!

Water based paint also seems more prone to permanent damage by bird dropping - which is an additional reason why I would polish regularly.

So no overall concensus then
Any hoot I waxed my car on Monday. Although it was in my hands only 5 days it's been built since wk37 so that should be more then enough time for the paint to dry properly I guess
The first few days the paintwork was beautifully smooth, but after a few hundred miles of driving the paintwork wasn't so silky so that's the reason why I waxed it.
Isn't that's why we wax our cars?????

...oh and to help the MPG too

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

I'll back this one up. Bird droppings are lethal to water-based paint, even in just a few hours! A good waxing really helps prevent paint damage.
