Ive not seen that many 58 plates around as I have done at other new reg's, whether thats coz they are weirdos like me who wont buy one coz it adds to 13, or coz of the market.

haven't seen a 58 plate around on any cars. The only 58 I have seen is on my new mini

Never understand why people buy certain cars brand new anyway.

If you were loaded and were buying a top marque then maybe the feeling that no one else had driven that car would be a good incentive.

Otherwise whats the point, its just like lobbing 5 grand out the window as you drive off out of the showroom.

yeah, anyone wamting a nice brg/silver clubman s should buy 2nd hand, i'd check the classifieds on this site first

Well, Minis were always one to buy new, given the residual values and the prices asked for cars less than a year old!! However, today I went see my dealer about a new MCS - they baulked at offering a £500 discount (on a car that listed at £20411!!), they offered £1k less on my part ex than its lowest book value (my brother is in the trade - it was a real bid price, not parkers or from the Vauxhall Glass' Guide!) and to really rub salt in they had a 6 month old 08 reg MCs on the forecourt that listed at a similar price new to the one I was speccing (but was a colour and spec my wife didn't want) - up at nearly £3k less than it cost new.

Surprisingly, I won't be buying - new or used. I'll give it 6 months to see what the market does next....

PS I live in Chesterfield if you want to guess the dealer....

I have yet to see a 58 plate.

But then I am in a hotel room about 40 km from Salzburg!
