2003 CooperS Vs 2004 CooperS?

Is this the year that something was different with the car? I've tried to do a bit of research, but to no avail? I seem to remember something about a gearbox change in the 2004 cars that improved things significantly

Any help? Got two cars to choose from tomorrow and there's a £1000 difference in the cars. The age is the only thing that seperates them at the moment

The gear ratio change did not occur until July 2004 builds.

so is it worth the extra to get the 54 plate? i.e. was the change significant. (off to google!)
