go to halfords, they've got a kind of tweezer that grabs it out, or try ebaying the tool as well

Hi Rian, can I ask what CD player you currently have?

Is it the standard one?

What strange advise from ypzhai.

what MINI do you have? If its a R50/R53 old style MINI then.....

You have to take your electric wing mirror and gear gaitor up which is the difficult bit, then undo the screws inside there and in the cup holders. This then releases the bottom of the uprights of the central console. You then have to undo the screws in the sides of the uprights - you may have to drop the underneath trim of the steering wheel. Once the uprights are out of the way the radio itself is held in by 2 screws. Some are torx screws. Theres a DIYFAQ section here that will have in depth info and pics.

Good luck. Done it myself a number of times!

Not too much hard work. Can be done quite easily! I do like the fact that its a mission to get to the radio. Puts thieves off straight way! Good luck and come on back if you get stuck.

Well if you look at your central console the radio is encased by the side uprights. Theres no way you'll get the original radio out as its screws are hidden by these uprights. Maybe if its a aftermarket stereo it might just pull out of the space but I guarentee the facia to hold the aftermarket one in place or the original ones need you to dismantle your central console and cupholder.
