The Warranty is dead, long live the warranty

Earlier in the week I received a letter from BMW telling me that my 4 year warranty period is now up.

The letter quoted me new rates which are high HigH HIGH.

Can anyone please recommend me some alternative warranty schemes?

Alternatively I was considering chopping the MY05 MCS in for a R56 John Cooper Works and starting again from scratch. Thoughts?

Im with warranty direct for my 2004 MCSC and pay £270 a year at the moment for the most comprehensive warranty they do, with BMW garages approved to do the work.

SO far Ive claimed for a wheel speed sensor/ seized wheel bearing with a total cost of £370, with £345 paid out to me after the excess. They didnt however cover a leaking engine mount.

BMW handled the negotions with WD which took 2-3 weeks- longer than I would have liked. Also, WD have yet to refund me the £36 diagnostics charge from BMW which I am told that they also cover.

So far, pretty much so good. The warranty has already more than paid for itself....im guessing next years premium will be more expensive!! Ultimately for peace of mind, I would give them (or similar companies) a call.

Dont accept their first quote though, they are very keen for the business and both me and my sister who also took out a policy were able to haggle the price down!

Good luck!

Whine?
It's not just a Supercharger noise..

I have the fully comp, no excess BMW warranty which includes EU roadside assistance and costs me just under £600pa via a monthly direct debit.

My S in on an 05 plate and in the first 12 months the warranty paid for itself several times over - in the grand scheme of running a modern car £600 is nothing over a 12 month period.

If you can't afford it, maybe you can't afford a MINI..

I would agree that a warranty with a mini is essential.......after 3 or 4 years major expensive things go wrong and you would need to be quite well off to pay for the repairs out of your own pocket.

this is the main reason that I was reluctant to sell my 25 year old daughter my cooper.......as although she could afford to buy it, she would not be able to meet the repair bills.

she is better sticking with her Ford Ka !!

All good points.

I have to admit that it has just had a service and BMW covered 6 separate parts that required fixing, if that had not been covered it would have been a nasty bill.

BMW or WD? - The first quote from WD was 200pa cheaper than BMW but any recommendations are welcome.

Also does anyone know what WD think of modifications?

have you tried asking your insurance company as they may have a link to another body that sells just what you need, which is got crediblilty from the people you rely on if you need to keep the car to a certain standard

My warranty will be up at the end of this month, but I wont be extending it, as I would prefer to add the few little mods that I have been planning for a while.

I am getting car MOT'd & fully checked/serviced by MINI this week, so I am hoping that so long as they do their job well, and I do my job at keeping my MINI well maintained that it should keep me as protected as I can hope for.
