Talking What's the furthest "Range" shown on your Trip Computer? Mines "540 miles"

Just a bit of fun...

In my MCS I managed to maintain a "Range" of 540 miles for about 5 minutes.

Can anybody beat that?

I've seen about 430 - but this soon plummets.

The consumption read-out on my OBC is optimistic by about 10%. How accurate is yours waynef?

I saw 650 miles on mine. That was driving in a convoy with the Southern Mini Owners Club from Clacket Lane Services on the M25 to Mini In The Park near Oxford. All done at a sedate and terminally boring 40-45 mph - although we broke the speed limit by 1 mph on a downhill stretch!

Hi RedMini,

By my calculations, my MCS Trip Computer/OBC is overstating the economy by 14%. My OBC says 36.2MPG but the trusty spreadsheet that I keep all my mileages in says 31.1MPG.

...which is frankly not very good at all.

(One final point, I reset my OBC once when I picked-up the car, but for continuity I decided not to reset it since. Doing this IMO should give me a trust-worthy average. Do you agree?)

Ta,

Wayne

Sweet side: WOW how could it possibly be over 600!

Wheat side: My Nav system computer screen has never shown more than 350 range or 35 mpg. Not good!

A delicious sweet-n-wheat part of a balanced breakfast!

Does anyone have a figure on what type of gas mileage they get on the S with the airconditioner on all the time? I am in Miami and need to use air most of the time and have gotten about 22 max. Is this normal? Perhaps I am still under the thrill of having a new toy and push it at times and cut into the efficiency. Who knows?

Sincerely, Kevin

Waynef - I agree that you should get a better average by running the consumption calculation cumulatively rather than on each individual tank, as how far below full the tank is on any particular fill should be averaged out. I have estimated that my car was about 8 litres below full when I picked it up and adjusted for it in my spreadsheet.

With satnav there are two fuel consumption readouts, so I have left one to run from new and reset the other when I refuel. According to my spreadsheet my average so far is 30.4mpg, but the OBC is consistently about 10% better than that.

kkpalmer - I run the aircon the whole time, and as I said above I have averaged 30.4mpg so far, which I think equates to 24.3 US mpg. My worst is 25.0 (20.0 US) (lots of slowish short-distance), and the best 36.5 (29.2 US), but that was on a fairly gentle motorway run when the car was almost new.

That makes monsta, dinger and cooper_sport joint winners as they all travelled in the same mind-numbing convoy of classic Minis!
