True White MINI - Paint job?

I am planning on buying a MINI in the coming months. In the area I live MINI's are very common and thus it would be nice to have something a bit different. What my partner suggested is that we get the MINI a paint job in pure white like that seen on the Audi R8's.

The reason being that the Pepper White offered by Mini is well.... Creme, not white. I think it would be quite special to have a true white MINI as I have never personally seen one.

I just want to know what people think of a Mini in pure white, do you think it would look good? Also, have you ever seen one or have any pictures of examples where this has been done before?

Many thanks

do they do a pure white mini? i think it may look good. I remember seeing plenty in Old English colour.

One option rather than expensive and sometimes poor resprays to buy another colour you also like and then vinyl rap it (can always be removed), heres one on Detailing World turning an M3 White.

My black M3 wrapped in white vinyl - Detailing World

This Leon shows how its done
Its a wrap! - Detailing World

Yeah black alloys would look nice, I was even thinking perhaps going with some white strip wheels (would post a link but can't because im new :S) like those seen on the old classic cars, only thinner.
Couple more questions, the Cooper Works body-kits you can buy to add on to the likes of say a cooper, are they any good?

Also in relation to my sisters mini, is it possible to take the Cooper badge off of the back without damaging the paintwork?

Hey,

Firstly try and avoid the respray - very costly and you won't be able to get the money back for the cost of it when you sell the car on...the vinyl wrap is a far more sensible option, just remember to tell the DVLA that the car has changed colour if you wrap any other colour car but white.

You can buy a Cooper bodykit, bear in mind you will have to approach a lot of speed humps very slowly and at an angle or you'll scrape the front splitter, to be honest they are expensive and dont add a great deal of value to the car...but they look awesome!

to remove the Cooper badge heat it up with a hair dryer then use some dental floss behind the lettering to take it off, then use polish/tcut to remove any left over glue residue...very easy 5 minute job.

hope this helps

cant say much on the JCW kit.

De-badging, you need a few things. You can soak behind the badges with Tar Remover, softens up the stick stuff. Others use a hair dryer to heat up the glue first. Then carefully and patiently out with the dental floss. Do not pull at them, a clean surface will avoid any scratches and tar removes dont work if they come into contact with water. If there is glue/sticker residue it can be tricky to remove sometimes due to the thickness of it, soak it tar remover for a few mins at least, this may take a few attempts as tar remover evaporates very quickly.

Nice one, thanks for the info. In relation to wrapping, does it not start to look a bit naff after a few years? I can just see the edges looking a bit rugged and all?

in theory shouldnt do i think alot of testing went into this before the pro's allowed to do it on any customers cars, and the M3 cost £750 to wrap so much much cheaper, there was a M3 on detailing world recently that had been re-sprayed recently in white and it had paint runs

If you were to consider it then it would be best to get in touch with 'Drive n Shine' (Leon Post) and would be more than happy to answer any questions or if some distance from you find someone nearer

Mmm, how much you think we are talking for a decent paint job?

I think so long as its not stupidly high I would rather go with the paint option, as it would be permanent and personally I think it would raise the value of the car, white is very sort after at the moment.

Any color change which doesn't completely hide the original color will devalue the car. Such a color change would be outrageously expensive.

Leeds Motors, who are sponsors on here, painted and fitted both mine and my brother's aero kits on our MINI's, and I can vouch that their work is absolutely spot on. In the link you'll see that they estimate a full respray costing between £1300 and £1500, so its not as expensive as you might think to have done. And as for the aero kit scraping every speed hump, and the front splitter hitting everything, that doesn't happen. I've only ever grounded it on a particular very steep drive way so it's not too bad. Does look awesome as well!!

I just got a quote out of interest from a professional company in Staffordshire and to do a full mini in white gloss vinyl the cost would be £1095.. Using 5 year guranteed vinyl, car needed for 5 days.

Go for it dude! what area do you live in? I know a very good spray shop - was voted best bodyshop in the UK by Fast Car magazine...resprays start from just shy of 2K i believe.

imho a pure white vinyl wrap isnt the way to go. even though the vinyl is guarenteed for 5 years you may get bubbles, it wont cover plaes i.e under the bonnet, inside door etc etc. i highly reccomend a paint job. its on my 'to do' list
