England I'm new Hear with some good news...Thankyou BMW!

Right so i set off on short 20 min drive all seems fine, nice day, not much traffic.. couldnt have been better until clunk! My Gearbox sounded like someone had just thrown a spanner inside it
I thought it might have just been having it's time of the month so waited a couple of days but no the clanfing clunking noise just got worse.
A trip to my local mini dealership today resulted in the conclusion of
"Your gearbox has basically eaten itself and you need a new one!"
As you can imagine i wasn't best pleased seem as though my pride and joy a 54 reg mini cooper (with the getrag box) aero kit, miltek manifold and cat back, bluefin superchip, pipercross viper cold air feed kit.... had only done 40,000 miles and 30,000 of them motorway miles sat at 80mph!
Anyway the technician said they would be in touch about the cost e.t.c only just as i got home the phone rang with some amazing news.....
"I have spoken to BMW goodwill and they are going to give you a new gearbox FREE of charge plus they will pay 50% of the labour costs, leaving you with £350 to pay"
As you can imagine i nearly dropped the phone!
I get a new Gearbox fitted for £350...... on Friday and they only diagnosed the problem today (Wednesday)
Thankyou BMW!

thats great that, out of curiosity is this the general manner which BMW are taking to this problem?

for instance if my gearbox decides to eat itself will BMW do the same?

I'm not too sure, they said it was quite unusal for a gearbox to fail so soon even though i know of quite a few!
I didn't even have to ask about the goodwill they just said you deserve some for what has happened....my recommendation would be to go to the same dealership as i did... Malton MINI.
I think it's all down to who is dealing with you and if they've had a bad day or not

Good for you! Its always nice when something falls your way. And you sound like you deserve it
I think BMW customer service is excellent I have always been so pleased with them.
My Dad on the other hand who owned several Lexus has had nothing but trouble with them and the service.
He now owns a lovely 330 Ci
Dont forget it was BMW who kept the original Mini going untill 2000! And then bought out an even better version!!

Not unusual practice. Go and have a read in the 320D section on the bmwland forums.

Gearbox known to be a weak point.. Its BMW kind of admitting they knew about the problem. I believe if you go to them with over 100k on the clock and their attitude is a bit different.

Id rather do mine myself i know its right then, hate sending my car places no matter who they are partly becuase i hate to complain and send wrong things back and cba with the hassle.
The gearbox would be nice though if it does go, ripping the front off the mini looks to much fun to send to them.
