Mini or local garage.....

hi all,

I recently purchased my 57 plate mini cooper D.

Now the car is telling me it is due a service. It has done 10,500 miles.

My questions are;

Should i take the car to an official Mini dealership to get this done or is it ok to get the 'local garage' to do this?

Also, how much will this cost? What would usually need replaced?

How often does this need to be serviced?

Thanks for your help in advance

you could try one of two things, take the car to the dealer and ask them to read the fob. or telephone the dealer and give them your reg number. If you have a TLC package then it wont cost anything. I dont understand that the service is due at such a low interval. 18000 miles is the norm isnt it.

first service on a MINI Cooper D is at 12,000 miles, 20,000 for a petrol.

If you want to PM me the reg I can check for you?

Solved Chances are its done some short runs - these make the car need servicing sooner - nothing to worry about

Furthermore, the likelyhood of the car not having a tlc is tiny. Personally I'd take the car to mini unless you're keeping it over 5 years - most minis have fmsh, yours would be worth less as it'd be so easy to get one with fmsh - get it to mini!

Thanks for your info folks!!

The 12,000 miles sounds about right, says that there x left to go until service is needed. I contacted Mini re the TLC package and guess what...........it didnt have it. Shocker!!! Is there anyway of me double checking this.....??

Oh and yeah i am taking it to Mini, sometime next week.

Thanks again.

Get the dealer to put the key in the key reader - this will tell them everything.

As its a new car its probably worth taking it to a dealer, but its certainly a rarity to have a mini without a TLC pack!

agree'd with M.O.S because chances are if you take it to 'average joes garage' they will replace the oil etc with cheap stuff to reduce his cost and boost his profit.

take it to mini and you're garenteed good quality!

mines is going in tomorrow (well today for a service) .. BMW here i come!
