Mini 1 had a problem with the power steering and when "fixed" it was discovered that the block plug lead was tampered with such that the previous owner had tried to suppress a leak with tape.Bottom line was it caused an electrical issue that failed a replacement pump.

Its all very scary this stuff.Glad you are all in one piece.Cars fail but becoming a fire risk these days shouldn't be happening.

to be honest mate it was about the right time as far as costs go for you, mine has just had clutch done at 24k so yours would have been due quite soon i fear. ive been teaching for 6 years and wont be buying another mini. look great, far too expensive to fix, bmw want £932 for clutch and another £600 for a flywheel. and we all know the perils of dual mass flywheels. most driving instructors are finding out too their peril about these! the clutch no longer having springs in them! i know loads of mini instructors who have had problems with the clutchs and the flywheels.

get a fiesta tdci titaniuum or zetec s boring i know but promise u the trade off is immense ford want £390 for a clutch and fitting. i have wasted 6 months this year in and out of the dealers with wiper problems noises from engine and other bits and pieces. they even turned off hill assist and didnt even know! then they couldnt turn it back on! bloody useless! have had 16 days of no work due them having my car, now its going in again to have timing belt changed (@24k) due to noises coming from that area and they cant find any other reason.
