United-Kingdom Have I done the right thing.... Please advise Cooper S Convertable

Hi guys

I have a mini clubman 2007 model, hot chocolate since October 2009.
I just found it a little sluggish when i drive it.

The Cooper S flies.

Today I went to the Mini dealer and i purchased a

June 2009 Mini Cooper S Convertible...

Have I don the right thing? I always go through this.

Car is fabulous pepper white with Hot chocolate soft top roof.

Its leather interior, looks brand new.

Just feel bad, and wonder if I should have got a model with a sold roof.

Thanks guys for reading and advise will be mush appreciated

I think what Madasafish means is "****! I've spent a load on money on something a bit fivolous thing. Should I have a) stuck with what I've got or b) gone for a sensible, practical hard top"

Madasafish - if u love the car then u've done the right thing. I couldnt afford the soft top or i would have got one!

Enjoy it when/if we get a summer this year!

What I Mean Is

I have bought a convertible, Just wondering if I should have
bought a solid top mini.

It looked so nice in the showroom

Does anyone have any advice, do they leak?

I dont pick the car up till next saturday, so still got time to pull out.

I only paid a deposit.

I also live where there is a lot of seaguls, what is the best way to keep the soft top material from getting stained by the gulls acid

It shouldn't leak. They handle cold weather well, like this, see: Exclusive: MINI Cooper S Convertible | theSwitchback

Car sounds gorgeous. Get that roof down as much as possible!

I am always perplexed by the amount of soft top cars I see going round in nice weather with the roof up.

So, go get it and post pics when you do...

To be honest, how much you use the soft top is a very personal thing. After ten years of owning convertibles, I would not want to have a hardtop as I put the roof down on mine whenever it's not raining and the temp is above about 7 degrees. Driving a saloon is like wearing an overcoat on a sunny day - air conditioning might make it bearable, but only by comparison with something worse.

But then I'm an old fart with short hair and little care for my appearance - I know one convertible owner who has to dress specially and never puts the roof down on normal journeys, so she gets the roof down once or twice a month in the summer on special 'topless' drives into the country.

Equally I'm happy to do long journeys with the roof down but while the upright windscreen of the Mini convertible makes it well sheltered, it is quite noisy so if you must hear passengers or the stereo perfectly, it's likely you'll put the roof up on motorways. I must admit that after a few hundred miles at speed, it feels like I've been riding a motorbike.

Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice...

Andrew

I totally agree with andrew. I've had my Mcs convertable for nearly 3 years now and have the top down whenever it's not raining. A windstop is a must and if you can get heated seats go for those too. If you've had a hard day at work nothing beats driving home with seats hot and wind in what's left of my hair. You will never want to go back to a car with a roof ever again. You will enjoy it . Ps autoglym do so very good canvass cleaning and proofing products Dave

Absolutely agree! Last time I had a convertible (a couple of years ago now - I still miss it!) the roof was very rarely up... can't beat blasting home from work after a long day with the roof down, irrespective of how dark or cold it might be.

Take Delivery Tomorrow

Hi,

Well a whole week has passed and i take delivery of my
June 09 Mini Cooper S Convertible tomorrow, Saturday.

Not used to a Convertible so will be strange.

Guys at work, think i am mad buying a soft top car, they reckon they
are an advert to break into the car.

Does the Mini Cooper S Conv have and added security ? ie, alarms

Kev

Kev,

All R56 MINIs have an alarm.

If you do not leave ANYTHING on show inside the car, I very much doubt anyone will bother it.

Why are people in this country so negative

Enjoy your car and post pics

I've had my mini cooper s convertible since September and I love it to bits! I dont regret getting a convertible one bit!! The exhaust sounds amazing with the roof down. The sunny days make it worth every penny! As for cleaning the roof, I was told by the dealer to only use water, no cleaning products.:-)
