Opinions on checkered roof and wing mirrors?

Hi all.

I'm new to the forum as I've just bought a 2003 Mini Cooper - I love it!!

It has the checkered roof (it's silver with black/white roof). The bonnet doesn't have stripes, but I was thinking of having the wing mirrors done checkered as well. What do you think? Would it be overkill or not?

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome again (I caught you inthe NOT thread). While I have a body-clour roof, I really like the checkerboard. I personally think the mirrors are a bit much, but I thought Norway's curling pants were a bit much too - so what do I know.

Hihi!

I'm currently looking into external mods too...

In my opinion, I think the checkered wing mirrors would be a little overkill :P Perhaps getting the mirrors in a different solid color?

I must admit, when I see mini's out and about with patterned wing mirror covers and sometimes the rearview mirror as well, it can look a little tacky. My pet hate is the union jack on all three, roof, wing and rearview mirror. However I do like the 'checkmate' chequer pattern on the rear of the front wings, that looks good imo.

Fair enough. If people like it, its their car, I just wouldn't be seen dead in one tricked out like that!

I have just brought a Cooper Clubman D in Pepper white with Pepper white roof too, it was to much Pepper white so i have just booked it in to BMW to have the roof checkered to break it all up a bit. The only other checks going on are the side scuttles and thats it. Got Black mirror covers and it looks enough in my view so i would stick to plain mirrors covers if it was mine. Oh and i'm having a Cooper S fuel filler fitted while its there.

I went for the checkered mirrors and think they look good

Mine is a brand new Cooper S in chill red/white roof. I have a sunroof too which I also have checks on too.

IMO its what makes Minis so special. We can personalise them however we like. And even if we dont like what someone else has done to theres, or they dont like ours, so what? It doesnt matter as long as you like it

I still have my white mirror caps so that I can change them back if I get fed up of the checked ones.

Best of luck with your decision!

Welcome to Mini2 and Mini Ownership in general. Checkered roof etc isn't my thing personally, but that's thing about mini's, it's all about personalisation. If you like it then by all means go for it!

Hi there

my ex mini (now my wifes as i now have a jcw gp) has everything chequered, cheq rear view mirror, cheq side scuttles, cheq door mirrors, cheq dash, and jcw cheq mats, which i must admit i went a bit mad at mini united last year as it there was good discount and free fitting (bonus) thats why i went for them, and i think it looks fine. It's all down to personal taste as already stated. All the best and welcome to mini ownership!

I know with O/P your Mini is silver, but this gives you some idea. If your not sure hold out - there are heaps of other things you can add to your Mini.

its all down to personal taste, but the good thing about the mini you can personalise as much or as little as you like.

It's entirely upto you If you don't like them just take them off easy as that

Personally I think the chequered roof looks great on its own and I think for me it is too much having the mirrors as well. I think the mirrors do look good, don't get me wrong, but I think it looks best with the rear view mirror done as well. But then don't forget it is your mini and you go with what you like. Also it is a huuuge benefit adding thinks like checks as it makes it a lot easier to spot in the car park. I too have a chequered roof (black and white) on a pure silver cooper.

If you go to look for 'accessories' on mini.com you will see brown Mini Cooper Clubman with checkered roof and mirrors. That would give you the idea.

Nothing at all Iain! I have to admit yours looks good there! I was refering to the red white and blue decals that some have on their cars, I just feel that alot of the time that many different colours and patterns on a car which is often another colour altogether looks odd imo.

I think because yours doesn't have so many different colours on it the shades of grey go very well with the pepper white. looks nice.

As everyone is saying at the end of the day its personal choice and making your mini your own, when it comes to styling I am a minimilist I supose so prefer a plainer less complicated look.
