dash sticker residue clean up?

I tried to search to see if this has been asked, no luck.

So, what do you recommend to use to clead off the residue left by the airbag warning sticker? Ive always used rubbing alcohol for things like this but wonder if it will hurt the Pantina finish.

TIA for advice, cheers.

I use this product called "Goo Gone" to remove any sticky residue, and it has a citrus scent to it.
You can buy it for $1 or so at any automotic or hardware/home improvement store.

Edit: here's a link to it... iconhttp://www.officedepot.com/shop/cata...27686&LEVEL=SK

Ok, maybe it's a little more expensive than I thought

I'd say Goo Gone too... I haven't tried it on the patina finish (since I don't have the S yet!) but I've used it on lots of other plastic surfaces and it hasn't damaged any of them. As it probably says on the bottle - try it in an inconspicuous area first.

NICE

Got an Office Depot on the way home. Thanks for the advice, has anyone already used this stuff on the pantina?

Avoid chemicals. You don't need them.

I wouldn't recommend using any sort of solvent on the plastic. It could cause damage to the plastic that may not be immediately visble, but could show up later as discoloration or brittleness.

The best way to get rid of the sticker residue (using no chemicals or abrasion) is to use the back of the sticker itself and reapply it and then quickly lift it off in an attempt to pull the residue off (cohesion to the adhesive sticky stuff on the back of the sticker is stronger than the adhesion to the dashboard). Repeat until the residue is gone.

You can do the same thing with simple masking tape. Press it on over the residue and the lift it off quickly. Repeat as necessary using fresh pieces of tape and the sticky residue will soon be all on the tape with none on the dashboard.

Carefully peel off the sticker then use the sticky back to remove any residual adhesive. Might take a couple of minutes, but this method works great and no need to purchase GooGone (which also works well).

I did what BruceK suggested using the airbag warning sticker I had just removed, but that didn't get all of it. For the the remainding residue, I just used some Simple Green and a paper towel. It doesn't appear to have affected the Pantina finish.

As a warning for those who have not removed thier sticker yet.

Peel Slowly, If it starts to leve residue stop and try from another corner.

My sticker left no residue when I did this, I know you'd rather be motoring but take your time and you may save yoursef a job.

Anyway got to go and get rid of the hazing where I got wax on my wheel arches! Doh!.

Peanut butter (yes) is supposed to do a good job in removing wax residue. Conversly, Mothers Back to Black is also a good choice.

Another good way to remove wax from plastic trim is to use some Naptha (aka, lighter fluid, the type you use in a Zippo) with a toothbrush. Zaino Perfect Tire Gloss (Z16) works very well too.

dash sticker residue clean up?

I agree peeling slowly is the first choice. Mine came off cleanly.
I've taken the residue off of 2 dashes with WD40 with no detrimental effect.

WD40

i have to agree with MINImeat, WD40 works like magic on sticky residue. I use it all of the time on residue left by stickers. it worked well on the dash and didn't harm the finish. just spray some on a paper towel and gently wipe the sticky area. let it sit for a couple of min. then wipe it up. the WD40 softens the adhesive so it comes right off.

DS/B, Sunroof, Fog Lights. Finally here! I love this car!

"Goo Gone" works great - doesn't harm the finish. Took off the sticker residue in my car in about 30 seconds.
