Angry Is My Cooper Really Worth as Little as This

Hi All

Just got off the phone to Ventura(Mini2 name works for Mini Dealer real name Rob) and he has informed me if my cooper was back to its standard spec which cost £16000 its now worth £12000 with 9200 miles is this really right, this means it has lost £4000 in 1 year or are they taken the P*** out of me

Do a search on the mini cherished web site

http://www.minicherished.co.uk/AUC/M...,3180,,00.html

Look for cars with a similar spec to yours and see what dealers are selling them for. Then take off an amount for their profit. I don't work in the industry but I expect they would want at least £1000 profit.

I doubt very much if you'll see a car like yours on sale for £13000. So I'd say their offer is cr*p. From what I've seen they basically sell cars for list price that they've used as demos and put 5k or so miles on them.

Shop around dealers or sell privately - you will surely get more for it.

I asked about mine yesterday, they said that the dealership could sell it for a little less than what I paid for it (as I've done 16k miles). You'd get more privately. Lots more!

Dealers, Dealers, Dealers
Do not sell your car to a dealer
Dealers want/have to make a profit
Of course they will pay you less
They know that they can sell it easily
Sell it privately yourself and make hundreds of pounds more
Its a sellers market for the mini
Take advantage of it - it won't last forever

When my girlfriend went to order her MINI COOPER she was told that she would have to wait over 4 months for it. To cut time one option was to get a MINI ONE and use the saved money to kit it up. But whats the point of that. The other alternative was to get a used MINI on the MINI CHERISHED plan. They offered her a MINI COOPER the same colour and with virtually everything she wanted on it, 1 year old, 12,000 miles for £500 less than the one she is getting. And the one she is getting in a 2 weeks has Traction Control and Visability Package(Rain sensor and heated front windscreen) more than the one offered.

Personally I think you are looking in the wrong place. If you go too far with extras, you will lose money, because when looking for a used car the optional extras are the last thing on your mind.

Again, local dealer. MINI COOPER 6000miles 1 year old Green £13,000. Sold within days.

Stuart

Oh hello by the way. Im new. Non owner, but a fan of cars in general. I would love a MINI for a Daily Driver, nice mild S would do me.

Same Here!

Paul ,i too wanted to sell my coop for an s , the dealer said i would only loose about a grand on what i paid , he told me he would get back to me with a firm figure soon.

My car lists @ 18.5k(mainly due to R90's + kit) , then iv since spent lots and lots and he came back to me with an offer of £15,000!

Therefore im sure it is best to sell privately , lol

I think that price is VERY low, even for a trade in.

If they have many on the lot, look at the prices of them and compare with the price you've been offered.

If not, then my guess is they're selling fast, which also indicates their price is too low.

I sold my MINI on Thursday, through a dealer who advertised in the wanted section of the Sunday Times. I aalso tried the ones in Autocar.

There are dealers out there who are desperate for MINIs and others who are bursting with stock. You need to find the ones that are seriously low on them as they will bid keener prices.

Not really a dealer per se. But a buyer who buys for a BMW group franchise. Paragon I think.

I sell VW. The other day a fellow mini2er came in by chance to try and change from his Cooper to a Lupo GTI. (I know, i know). Being a bit of a MINI enthusiast, I spent time with him going through the spec etc. Basically it was Indy blue/white with a couple of options but not air or a roof. It had covered about 13000 miles in 12 months i think. The list price new was £13385 and I had varying underwrites from as low as £7500!!! upto £10500. £2885 depreciation in 12 months is pretty good really. The dealer would probably put this car up for circa £11995 - £12495. The biggest problem I had was the lack of Air or a roof. He had an alarm and ASC but not the crucial thing that can seriously affect it's value.

As far as dealer margin goes, the dealer will probably be looking to stick around two grand on the purchase price. BMW/MINI dealerships are not cheap to run and maintain. Then theres warranty, advertising, stocking charges, insurance.........etc

The dealer who offered £7500 incidently got scrubbed from my underwrite diary for the future. Won't mention their name as I still use them for BMW's.

Hi there, is she really getting the visability package, I understood this wasn't available yet, I am expecting delivery on 22 Nov, and thought I was missing the visibility pack by a couple of weeks Probably too late to change my order now. Has anyone seen this option available for selection on the ordering system?

Have they started fitting them yet? MINIGuy?

This wouldn't supprise me as my salesman kept the recent additions ie factory tints, glovebox (yep I know it not an option) to himself, his reason? "It just makes more work for me"

Neil

Any other options apart from A/C crucial, or at least desirable enough to up the value?

Am wondering out of interest how much of the extra I paid for Chilli pack I can expect back in a couple of years. Almost half the cost of it would need to be spent on A/C anyway, so presumably I get that half back?

Thanks for your comments.

Would having A/C or a roof had added the full purchase cost of these items to the trade-in offer?

Did the person put in an order for the Lupo?

Sorry for the delay.

Aircon would increase the trade in value by the purchase cost definately. In some cases it could even return you more as the car is much more desirable for the dealer to have on his forecourt.

TLC obviously

On a MINI ONE, alloys would be crucial.

On most other cars, metallic paint is an option that would be worth the same on trade in as when new but I don't think this meccesarily is the case with MINI as the Red seems to be the most popular. Although I wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of a value on a white one.

Also on MINI ONE, salt pack would be one of these options simply due to the amount of goodies you get with it.

The thing to remember is in three years time when you trade the car in, the dealer will have been offered many cars. A car with plenty of spec is going to be much more desirable than a basic one. Thats desirable NOT valuable.

NC

ps. He didn't buy a Lupo. Thank god!.
