Ill keep you posted I have a thread on this also

What is wrong with people

They crash a car and even though it may be their fault they expect someone else to pay and start a lawsuit !

If manufacturers thought every time an airbag didn't deploy they'd get sued then they wouldn't put airbags in any car.

I think they are trying really hard to improve things for people involved in accidents.

The guy is going to have a tough time trying to sue a company when they have suffered no loss resulting from the lack of an airbag.

Meanwhile . . . Back in Florida . . .

As much as I agree with comments about too many lawsuites, I thought I would drag this thread back to Killian's crash . . .

It dawns on me that we have asked after Killian, lamented the grevious harm to her MINI, and recommended angles of attack to replace the MINI rather than repair it. The one thing we haven't asked about is the old lady that hit her.

Killian, How did the woman fair from this? Is she OK?

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you are OK.

I can't help but think how well the MINI held up and protected the occupants.

One thing to think about with having the car rebuilt. Manufacturers warranty!! If they insist in rebuilding, make sure that it is done by MINI and will not effect the warranty. If the work is done by someone other than MINI. A Warranty claim may be denied due to work that was not done by MINI that can effect the warranteed part(s).

I thought the pyrotechnic devices (which look like cansiters of compressed gas, though they're probably more complex than that) were located in the space above the wheel arches in MINI's rear wings?

You're not going to find them in the A pillars

Here's the pic to show what I mean!

The red arrows point to the devices that produce the gas that inflates the side curtain airbags.

law suit

I guess thats why they wana sue the manufacturer coz the person passed away . Multiple head injuries which could have been saved if they put an airbag. the local BMW dealer mechanic even suggested that so they would check the production line. I have heard of several crash that the airbag didnt pop but having no air bag inplace is something new. I just heard this stpry from my friend I dont know the person who owns the mini and the guy who passed away

The 89 Year Old Lady is Fine

For those of you who are interested, here's the update.

The old lady is fine. The tank she was driving just had a dented front bumper. I've even called to check on her a few times. Besides being kind of mentally out-of-it, she is physically fine. I think the mental and memory issues were problems long before she and I met.

I've tried hard to get the Mini totaled, but it looks like it will just be repaired. Needless to say, this really ****es me off.

How much is the repair estimate, and what exactly are they doing? Replacing panels and the axel? Did they note any frame damage or need to "pull" any part of the car?

Updates when final

Hey there -

Because things are in discusion with the insurance company and body shop, I will refrain from giving specifics of the repairs until all is finalized. I'm sure you can understand, I have to be careful not to jeopardize my Mini!

Unhappy

Hi there killian

Im so sorry to hear of your crash and i can only think of the way you must be fealing right now

The main thing though is the fact that you are ok, and by the sounds of things, if it is written off, you should be able to get a special priorraty into getting a new car faster then the time you have had to wate for the first one.

I wish you the best, and things are souted out fast, and just think, if you do end up with a new car, at least you know it is going to be anouther MINI

What a bummer - glad you are OK.

You know, I'm not sure getting broadsided in a Mini qualifies as a "T" bone - its more like an "I" bone!
