White Cooper New MINI owner - questions about after-market add ons

I'm a first time, brand new MINI owner! Well, officially tomorrow morning when I pick up my 2010 MINI Hardtop/Hatchback. Its an automatic. I have some questions...I am interested in getting some different rims, a rear spoiler, and a body kit (something similar to the Aero Kit).

Should I have these things done at a dealer or better to use a local shop?

Am I better off to order these types of parts myself online? If so, what other cool MINI websites are there?

What should I know before starting this "adventure" as far as the aftermarket stuff goes? Anything I need to avoid or be aware of?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Hello Michelle,

There are a few good sets of rims always going on e-bay, just depends on what style you are after, regarding the bodykit places are doing full aero kits fitted & painted for around £995 unless you buy parts individually.

A real good website for aftermarket modifications is lohen.co.uk, minisport.com & newministuff.com

It all depends on what you want to achieve as there are endless things you can do to a mini

Hope this helps...

Kind Regards

One thing I would suggest with regards to changing the rims of the car, don't go over 17 inches. I had 18's on my first Mini One several years ago and they didn't work well with the cars suspension.

Talking rims

Can I upgrade to 16" rims without dropping my car or adding a camber kit? I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible but its all sort of new to me so I'm not always sure what I can or can't do.

Also, I'm in the states...I wonder how much I should expect to pay for a body kit here. Thoughts or ideas?

Oh, BTW, love love LOVE my MINI. The day I picked it up was the best day since my wedding...maybe even better. I feel like I'm in a secret, special club! Every time I drive my car I smile and every time I see other MINIs its like seeing long lost family members. All these years, I never really understood my husband's obsession with his car but now I finally get it. Who needs kids...I have my car!
